Lets get this straight here.
A sports car is a RWD, Manual, good handling 2 seater. They don't have backseats, they aren't automatics, and they don't weigh 3500lbs.
Just wanted to get that straight before somebody else goes off and calls a GTO a sports car.

meh, My biggest descriptors on a sports car is what I put. Engine doesnt matter all that much IMO as a sports car could be anything from the old S600s to a Lotus Elise to a Z06 or Porsche Cayman.
Are you saying the GTR, 997TT, or the Evo/STi are not sports cars? Because they sure are in my book. :/

STi/EVO are sport compacts, not sports cars. Are you really going to sit there and say a 4 door sedan is a sports car? Is it sporty? Yes, Is it quick? Yes? Does it handle well? Damn straight, but it's not a sports car.
GTR and 997TT I could include, as both I consider more of 2+2s.

+1... Sport sedans (which is what i refer to the STi/EVO as)can be just as fast and as good handling as many sports cars, but that does not make them sports cars. The BMW M3 and M5 fall into this category as well.
2+2's such as the GTR, 911, RX-8, new lotus evora, etc... fall into the category of Grand Touring (GT) cars which is just another category of performance car. I'd even put some of the bigger heavier 2 seaters in this category.
People confuse "Performance car" with "sports car"
all the mentioned vehicles are performance cars but not all are sports cars. There is no insult intended with classing a car as a Sport Sedan, GT car, Muscle car etc... they are just a different type of performance car than a sports car. Each categoy has advantages and disadvantages, but none of them are inherently better or worse than the others.

Now, that's what I was going for but you > me for explanations.
I have a lot of respect for Corvettes, long racing history, tons of power, pretty good styling. But every time I consider one I go for a test drive and come away feeling... eh. I just can't get past the flexy chassis and disconnected feeling. The Z06 is brutally fast, probably too fast for the street and a handful for weekend drivers (without a racing license) on a race track without a roll cage etc.
The S2000 is nowhere near as fast, but the total package makes it one of the best convertibles ever. Stiff chassis, awesome shifter, screaming engine, great brakes, classic styling. And realistically, a Corvette is a lot more money than an S2000, double or triple in some cases.
Both cars have their places, both cars have their fans.
S2000 for me.

This is exactly where I stand, cost isnt a factor in driving what ever car I chose. Its just nothing else really has the feel of an S2000, and after you add boost to the S2000 it makes it an even better car IMO. The only other car I have driven that has felt just as good or better is the Scuderia; unfortunately, its not buying the car thats as expensive (in comparison), its all the required maintenance.
My grandfather has a C06 and even though he only took it out on sundays, it just didnt seem reliable. A car that was hardly ever driven... alternator, A/C compressor, mis fires, ECU short out and not to mention, for a car that is supposed to be a flagship model, it has seriously crappy and cheap interior.
I agree that it looks great but with the weight "under 3600lbs" likely means about 3500 which is a little heavy for my taste. That said it looks like it is going to be a GREAT GT car (i put it in that category due to weight, but someone could make a legit argument to call it a sports car). However, If I had 200k to blow on a car, I'd probably buy a ferrari of some sort.
SLS is actually lower and wider than the S2000, has decent weight distribution (47/53) and is pretty powerful (563hp, 460 lb.ft)... Actually many Ferrari's weigh around 3500lbs. Scaglietti and the new FF are close to 4000 lbs, California is around 3600lbs. These may be categorized as GT as well. Apparently there are some issues with the weight of the new 458, being about 400lbs heavier than advertised. All are great cars.
