C6... why?
I've been reading forums here for a while. And some of you are always talking about buying a Corvette, if you could find a deal and bla bla bla.
Where does that come from? I am just curious. We are S2k fans, owners, and lovers. And the ONLY common feature between the S2k and the Corvette is the performance/price ratio. That's it.
I did not buy an S2k because of the performance/price ratio. I bought it for its refinement, quality, fun to drive, because of its top-down feature, light weight etc. And when I will be looking for a real sport car, I will probably be considering a used Ferrari, NSX, or any other real exotic.
With all the respect I have for you guys, could you please tell me what you find so exciting about the Corvette with its over weight, push rod engine, unprecise shifter, GM-poor interior, etc.?
Don't talk about pricing. I know it is cheap for the performance it gives you... but on top of that, what really gives you a hard-on?

Overweight engine - no, it delivers more hp per pound than the F20C, and if anything, it and the Hemi prove that pushrods are not outdated.
Interior - well, I wouldn't call the S2000's interior Audi-class, so its a draw.
Shifter, yeah, s2000 has most everything beat here.

Allow me to begin by offering my version of your statement, "We are S2k fans, owners, and lovers." My version would be "We are car enthusiasts."
I have an S2000 now, but I had an LS1 before that, and a 3800lb twin turbo 3000GT before that. Simply put, I am into a lot of different types of cars.
Now I'll move on to your other statements.
Weight: In my opinion the Corvette is not overweight at ~3200lbs. That's only about 350-400 more than an S2000 and for having the powerplant it's got is not half bad. Sure it could be lighter but it's not like it's in the upper 3000s or higher like most cars these days.
Pushrod engine: Really? This one doesn't even make sense to bring up. It makes great power and torque and it's lightweight and fuel efficient. I could care less what the design of the top end is.
Unprecise shifter: I can't speak to this one. I've not driven a C6. I'm sure I can safely assume it's not as good as the S2000 shifter though, since our cars do have one of the best shifters ever. Still, I don't know that the feel of the shifter would bug me too much.
Interior: The C6 isn't too bad. It's not great either, but it's not like the 90s GM plastic trash which I put up with for four years in my TA.
My reason for wanting a C6 is quite simple. It is in my opinion the absolute best all around sports car you can get without jumping over six figures into the exotics. Corvettes handle great, they look great, they sound phenomenal with cam/exhaust modifications, they have more power and torque than most anything else on the road and they respond insanely well to mods just like any other LSx car. A C6 is very likely my next car but it's going to be a few years before I can realistically get into one. I will certainly miss some things about the S2000 but there are so many more things the Corvette has going for it that I wouldn't really mind.

Putting aside the comparison of specs I'd say we are dealing with the X factor.
I mean that subjective element that says I like my car better for such and such a reason.
We are a highly loyal group of owners so it's natural we'd favor our car over the others.
My 2 cts !

I love my s2k as much as the next the guy but a C6 is another beast altogether. To me it's better in EVERY category except maybe reliability but I'm not even sure about that. They get BETTER gas mileage than an S on the highway and have tons more power than an S. If I had the money for one I would still probably just build my car because I am a Honda guy and just wouldn't feel right getting into a Chevrolet BUT that doesn't mean I don't know it's a better all around car.
