This desciption of a CAI that works well for me has been on this board under the "Sonsored Grou Buys" forum. Because the threads on that forum come and go, I have been requested to post it here. First, the pics.
Now, the first pic should show the usual underhood pic of an AUT or Garage Defend radiator cooling plate and CAI. You will note the pipe extending from the left side of the stock air box to the hole in the pax side fenderwell, and the double foil insulation covering the filter to throttlebody tube for cooling.. What this pic cannot show is that the over-the-radiator CAI is insulated over the radiator top and is sealed all the way from the intake area in front of the radiator to the stock horn.
The second pic shows a ram air director fabricated from sheet aluminum extending from the bottom grill bar to the intake of the AUT or Garage Defend CAI, which does provide ram air at speed.
The third pic shows the whole rig with the air box cover removed. The box is fully gutted and insulated with double foil R 13 insulation. The filter element is raised off of the bottom of the box. Note the flapper valve where the piping to the pax side fender well hole enters the air box. This flapper is made of very light aluminum (I used a flattened out side of a beer can) and is attached to the side of the air box with a very light weight hinge. Its purpose is this. When the car is not in fast motion, the suction from the intake opens the flapper valve, allowing more air into the intake. When the car is in fast motion, the air director and CAI put the air box into ram air, and the flapper valve closes to prevent loss of this benefit.
This mod has given me an additional 2 mpg in fuel efficiency. My "butt dyno" tells me that it has given me more power too. Especially since it is quieter than stock, and allows me to take off in 1st as low as 1500 rpm, and throttle right up with no bog.
Most of this is not original design with me. Of course, the radiator plate and CAI come from AUT or Garage Defend (and there may be other brands). And the idea of drawing cool air from the hole in the pax side fender well was incorporated (as I understand it) into an early prototype of the s2k, and is sold as a kit by Coastal Medals. But the concept of the ram air scoop between the grill and the radiator to the the intake of the CAI is original with me, as is the idea for the flapper valve to prevent ram air from escaping through the side pipe at speed.
Sorry it took me bit of effort to get the pics up. I am a better mechanic than a computer geek. Got a question? Ask it right here.
I just read your instructions indicating that this post really belongs on the S 2000 Talk forum, and not this one. I only put it here because another poster suggested that I should do so. If you feel it belongs on the S 2000 Talk forum instead, please feel free to move it.

Richard, I'm not a moderator anymore, so it's not up to me. As for the pics, I think cthree must be working on the site and the albums are affected. None of my photos work right now, either. Just hang tight and I'm sure they'll be working soon.
