a CAI goes down below the beltline of the car, and the cooling plate goes over the radiator. i think if you use a CAI, the cooling plate wouldn't do much. if you got a short ram intake then the cooling plate would help

Get a duct... or a comptech/k&n intake. No major gains, but the sound is wonderful.

i have cai. seems to slow down throttle response a smidge. sounds great and helped with heat soak. reportedly a few hp and tq gain. friend with tuning shop recommeded stock airbox with duct.

Seibon CF - Remove OEM deflector and bolt it on - too easy and a surefire way to get cool air into your factory box. Obviously won't increase intake sound, if that's what you want.

You're right, the front fasteners inside the bumper are hard to get to. But once you've found them they are relatively easy to remove.

I've seen some just cut out the deflector on the passenger side to allow more air flow up into the intake, but the cooling plate is designed to seal the area above the radiator so it makes the deflector more or less worthless.

Don't remove the OEM deflector, just cut out a panel on the passenger side. The stock plate keeps air pressure high in front of the radiator and is part of the fluid dynamics of the engine bay.
