Default California Car Dusters

Guys,

I would never use a California Car Duster on my S2000. If you do, you're gonna scratch your paint.

To safely remove dirt from a vehicle, use water, car wash with lots of suds and a cotton based mitt and you'll never scratch your paint.

Never, EVER dry wipe your car with dirt on it. It's gonna scratch.

I have ZERO scratches of any kind on my car. Also, never, EVER let anyone else wash your car. When I ordered my S2000, I wanted it dirty and not touched by human hands with a rag. The dealer told me that I was the first customer who requested such a thing.

Go to a new car dealer at night and inspect all of their black cars with the bright overhead lights shining on them. Most likely, they will already have scratches in the paint. This is due to improper washing.

Funny, I've been using them for atleast 3 years now and have never had a blemish on any vehicle.

They work like a champ, they take dust off and any loosely attached crud. Its not meant as a scrubbing tool.

Have you ever tried one?

Yes, I've used one. But it was on a black car that I bought used which already had surface scratches.

I started this thread because I see many posts regarding the use of dusters. I just personally would never use one again as dry wiping with dirt on the car is against my detailing religion.

Keep in mind that I could be completely wrong...I just am not willing to experiment on my new car. Is there anyone here with a black S2000 that has used a duster that hasn't caused scratches? I mean, ZERO visible surface scratches in direct overhead light.

Except for new paint or show cars, I personally have never seen a black car with ZERO surface scratches.

i use one daily on my black car...
the car is detailed (by me) every two to three weeks. each day after that it is dusted after driving (it is important to dust gently and not push down on the car with the duster- just a light dusting), then covered with a car cover (inside the garage at my office). periodically it is cleaned with a spray cleaner (i use either griots or one other that i cant remember where i got it) after dusting and wiped off.
several folks have seen my car and can tell you that it looks at least as good as new (probably better due to the finish first!).
the duster is a necessity for a black car, and i agree that it is extremely important to use it properly to avoid scratches.

CA car duster works like a charm on my silver/red MY 2001 as well as my better half's red CRV. I have used one successfully for years on other cars and never had a problem. Maybe because I never use it when the car is truly dirty. I wash them once a week whether they need it or not and the cars stay in the garage at home and work.

I just started using one on my black "S". You are right, the light touch is the only way to do it.
However, I do already have swirls that show up with the right lighting. Just something you have to live with when you have a black car.

before the first use of the duster, lay out the threads on a newspaper overnight. the paper will soak up the excess oils so it doesn't collect on your car.

Been using the Calif duster on my S2000 for almost a year now. Works like a charm.

One thing I do do tho... is to keep tons of wax on the car. Seems like everytime I wash it, it gets another coat of wax. That way I feel like the surface is at least protected some!

As I just mentioned in another thread, I am enthusiastic about keeping my car clean, but not religious about it. I am very happy withj the California Duster. I don't think it should be used as a substitute for washing, but its great for removing light dust every couple of days. I don't believe that I see any damage from it on my red.
