Thumbs up Caliper Painting

But, I still need this one clarification.
Is it really safe to use four jacks all at once? Or, Do we run the risk of tipping the car over? I don't have jack stands, but I could readily muster four jacks...
Cheers!!

jacks are like 100 bucks a pop for a "decent" one = $400ish?. jackstands are under 50 bucks. go spend the money and dont ruin your car.

Thanks for the instant response!
I meant, I HAVE four jacks. If I could only use Jack Stands when doing four wheels all at once, I would rather do 2 + 2 with jacks. What say, KIP?
Cheers!!

Jacks are never as safe as stands. If you are going to have your car up on all fours for any extended period of time, you should put it on stands. It's a good investment because most likely you will be under your car at some time or another.

Think of it this way.... what if..........

What if one of the jacks fails while your wheel is off painting the caliper? Do you really want the weight of the car falling on the rotor?

Hmmm.......? Common sense says, buy a set of jack stands.

right..... i meant to get across to you was that somewhere along the line someone (yourself, friends, parents, etc...) mustered up the $ to (for some reason) purchase 4 jacks and in the meantime overlooked that ANY time you jack a car up you should have jack stands under the car just in case.

The first rule anyone ever taught me about working on a car: Never keep the car up on a jack only. Too many things can go wrong. Jack stands are the way to go.

Put her up on stands. I was a little scared when I had the stands under one side then had to jack up the other side. But after a couple of times, it's really no biggie. And it IS alot safer.

If your just painting the calipers and not getting under the car then I would just do one side at a time with two jacks.

I agree. On a weekend you could do the fronts, then the next day the rears. Or go side to side.
