Default calling all s2000 owners for help

Hi everybody,

first and foremost, I would like to thank each and everyone of you whoever takes the time to read my post.

I am calling out to all S2000 owners, who has had a engine failure due to lack of no oil. my engine recently sezied on me due to motor oil running out. The dealership says that AHM will not cover it because checking the level of the oil is the responsiblity of the owner of the car. I agree, checking and topping off is the owner's responsbility, but the last time I checked it, it was topped off. My engine is basiclly gone now, there was so much metal shaving in the tiny bit of oil left over in the engine.

I just had the oil changed at 12,000 miles and my car hasn't even hit 13,000 miles yet. I used an Mobil 1 oil filter, size M1-105 bought from another board member here. I put in 5.2 quarts of oil and not even after 1000 miles, practiclly all the oil inside the engine disappeared.

If anybody had this similar problem, please, post up in here, or PM me with what happened. I am going to have to fight AHM for my new engine.

need more info? PM me.

- Alex

You say you had the oil changed, who changed it?

Was there any leaks/oil on the underside of the car? It either leaked or burned, at least determine that...

S2k_Stylist, very sorry to hear about your problems. Hope you can get something worked out.

To anyone else, if this isn't a first class example of why this forum has "repeatedly" cautioned everyone to check their oil levels at "every fill up", I don't know what is.

I hope you find that you had a leak or something. I think it's outragious for a car to "consume" almost 5 quart of oil in only 1000 miles or less. One quart or maybe even 1.5 quarts but "5"?? Even for an engine that's tuned like the S2k's engine is tuned, that just sounds way too excessive to me. I know the 2.0 has this history. Hopefully, the 2.2 will do better.

Again, S2k_Stylist, good luck on this one.

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

Can't really figure how it could happen but if it burned out I would imagine there was a fairly LARGE cloud of smoke behind you for the last 1000 miles.

Stylist I feel for ya cuz this doesn't seem like any fun at all . MY best guess would be maybe improper oil fill, leak from drain plug, or leak from oil filter. (can't see anyway that much oil goes by-by that fast any other way???)

Speaking of the filter, you can find more than one person who had the Mobil 1 filter come loose while driving .

to 3ngin33r1:

I went to my mechanic which I had been going to for over 6 years, from my old car to my S2000. It was not changed at the dealership.

To billman250:

no, there were no leaks at all, none from the oil bolt, the filter nor the anywhere else.

to Intrepid175:

hes right, everybody DEFINITELY should check their oil every fill up, but ya, I know the S2000 has a history of eating oil, but my problem right now is.. for over 10,000 miles, my car NEVER showed that problem, then all of a sudden, less then 1000 miles, bam, 5 quarts gone.

To ninegrand:

I was thinking maybe that was the case, but when they loosened the oil filter, they never told me it was loose or anything like that. the people at the dealership who took apart my engine, said there were no loose parts. so its ver VERY to me right now.

thanks for all those that replied so far, hopefully I can get some people who had same/similar problems speak up or at least PM me. I need to find those that had the same kind of problems and build a case against AHM. Thank you all once again.

btw, to 3ngin33r1, when he was changing my oil, I was all over his shoulder watching him change my oil. from loading my car to the jack to starting my engine and driving my car out. I even helped him put the oil in my car.

All I can say is OUCH!

Hmmmm was there any funky sounds before things siezed up? You mention it have very little oil in it so I would imagine "some" warning or sound came from the engine?

Did you notice a trail of smoke behind you while driving?

I don't know all the circmstances, but from what I have read I think it's time you start doing serious CYA...cover your ass.

Which is to say:

I hope you keep written records. Start putting them together.

Get a signed letter from the guy that changed your oil and will attest to what work he did, and what the mileage was on the car at the time of thw work.

You probably need to have the car looked at by a mechanic to evaluate how much damage is done and what was the catalyst for the problem. I know the oil was gone, but the important question you need an answer is WHY.

You need to put together all this data, basically mounting a case, and then present it to the GM of the dealership, see if you can come to some understanding. If not, it's time to fine yourself some legal reprsentation.

Best thing when dealing with the GM or any person for that matter, be soft on the person and tough on the issue. Even if the guy is a totaly ass, you must stick only to the issues. Be prepared to let him no what the consequences will be if he does not work with you in resolving this matter. Be prepared to back up your words, don't make idle threats.

Now this may of course go on up the line to Honda, and you will need to use the same tactics with them.

The best thing now is to breath, drink a beer, and start gathering all the data you can. It sucks what happened to you and I hope you can get things resolved quickly and fairly.
