ya... I'm just so frustrated right now. I'm afraid to give them the go-ahead to tear into the engine to look for the "smoking gun" part which caused the engine to seize like that. IF they find it, warrenty will cover it, if they don't find anything, there will be 2000 dollars extra to pay just for them to tear apart the engine.

Well, no matter what it has to be torn apart unless you buy an entirely new motor. Just one way to look at it.

you say both that you "had" the oil changed, meaning by someone else, and then that "you" put in 5.2 qts. oil change at 12k and oil starved engine under 13k. which is it? 5+ qts of motor oil does not just vanish without the bottom of the car being wet, or lots of blue smoke, all in under 1k miles.

my bet is the oil was dumped and never refilled.

it is all to common for the "tech" failing to be put new oil into the engine.

i had a tranny recall on my harley for a faulty gear replacement. pulling a long hill, the tranny began whining, i check it and it was dry. a-hole dealer tried to tell me that i did not watch the level and tranny oil "evaporated". haven't been back to him since.

Besides, if the crush washer had been the source of the leak, he'd have had oil sprayed all over the underside of the car and there'd be no doubt where it went.

thanks Bass for pointing out those two threads. the oil filter didn't come loose, everything was intact as it should be. all tighten and perfectly in place.

the choice I have to make now is.. SHOULD I give the go-ahead for the dealership to tear into my engine? if I do, and they do not find the problem which caused engine to seize, I'm 2000 dollars more in debt. IF they do find something wrong with the engine, AHM will cover it.

Right now.. all grounds has been basiclly covered, I know my mechanic's handiwork and I stand behind his work all the way, so no way its his fault. The dealership never said anything was loose, they already have the top end and bottom end out. Metal shavings ALLLLL inside the left over oil.

what do you guys think? should I take that gamble and let them tear into it? dealership is claiming that there is a slim-to-none chance it will be the engine's fault.

STRESS!!!

I feel for you, really....... That has to be such a terrible posistion to be in! I wish there were something that we could do!! S2K car wash!! You should've had your oil changed by the dealership....i've seen many warranty claims turned down for things like this because you can't really prove you changed your oil...if you only had it done at the dealership from day one.......they would've covered you hands down. You need to get the Service reps involved.

I can understand your dedication, but your mechanic was the last one with their hands on it. Working on, now imagine this coincidence, an oil change. And what happened? You don't have any oil in your engine. Who else is to be at fault here?

Could it be the fault of Honda engineering that caused the oil to vanish, possible but I'm going with the dealer on this one. That chance is slim to none that it is Hondas fault. I think you really need to look at your mechanic for support on this one.

That and you were using the wrong parts on your car. You have to share some responsibility in this as well. It doesn't matter if some people never had problems using that oil filter and some people did have them. It's not the right part and you used it knowing this. Now your engine is toast and you're looking to point the finger. You may want to analyize your own actions first and clear yourself from any blame before involving others.

I don't mean to sound like a dick or anything and I am sorry to hear what happened to your car.

Your car needs to be fixed no matter what. Your decision to have the dealer rip it apart is entirely up to you, do you want them to be the ones to fix it? You can have that done or you can buy a used motor for a few thousand dollars and throw it in, keep the old one and rebuild it yourself to have a spare.

I think (not entirely sure though) that the cost of buying a used motor will run you about the same as having your current one rebuilt with stock parts. If it were my motor, I'd buy a used one to drop in the car and rebuild the old one for some good FI output.
