Can clutch throw be adjusted?
It is a hydraulic unit, but the pedal can be adjusted. Adjusting the pedal will only adjust the point at which the clutch begins to engage. If you do adjust the pedal, make sure you leave some amount of free play in the pedal or you can wear out your throwout bearing and possibly even your clutch disk
The clutch engages very abruptly
xviper has commented on this a few times recently. He always says it can be done, but be very careful because it is easy to really mess things up in our car.
With EXTREME WARNING, I give you this:

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know. The car is absolutely stock, no modifications or maintenance (other than 1 oil change).
>> Please explain what exactly you mean by this.
I don't mean that it engages quickly, near to the floorboard, but that the distance between the point where it first grabs and then it is fully engaged is very short. That's what I'd like to change, make that distance maybe 50% longer.

. Much better IMO. That delay valve is evil in more ways than one...ron
