I will p/u my new s2k on friday . it has 64 miles on it , which worries me a bit. Is it a good idea to tell the dealer to check what is the max. RPM she was revved to, with their analyzer? at least I will get some indication if she was abused.

If you special ordered the car and it has 64 miles on it, I would tell the dealer to "shove it". Mine had all of 7 km on it (about 4 miles). Now I know that there is some mileage put on for PDI and moving during unloading at the docks, but this is excessive and someone has been joy riding...

Hi yidal8,
If your dealer is willing to do this, have you set your threshold of pain for taking delivery? If the analyzer shows RPMmax = 9k, will/can you walk away from this deal?
Please don't get me wrong. Though I'm sure the car is OK, the 64miles would concern me, too. If this is going to bother you every time you think about the car, I'd recommend that you wait for the next one and spend the extra ~$2k ($1,660 + MY2001 price increase) for a new 2001 with less miles.
This is probably not what you wanted to hear, but you may be happier in the long run.
Good luck!

I wouldn't think "joy riders" over-revving the S2000s is as commonplace as it was when the cars came out. Some of the first ones were driven around even before the dealership knew about the secret compartment where the Owner's Manual with the break in instructions was located.

I have been reading posts about the S2K since November 1999. There have been transmission problems and clutch problems, but I don't recall engine problems. Many of these cars were reved to 9K before the suggested 600 miles. Honda builds engines that are almost bullet proof.
Sounds like you are getting a good price. I personally would not be concerned, but would put the dealership on notice of the concerns with the mileage and possible abuse of the revs should you go ahead. This way if something happens, you have established a cause of action. Put it in writing.
Good luck

Well reving to 9,000 is not that bad before 600 miles its the reving to 9,500 or 10,000 that would make me walk away from the deal!
