Default Can my top be fixed

There is a slit about 1/2" x 1/2" at a 90 degree angle. It is located over the drivers head. Can this be repaired or is a new top necessary?

aggie,

My guess is you'll need a new top. My top was damaged in a similar manner some time ago, and I was told that it can't be repaired.

You can repair anything. What it looks like is a different story.

If you don't care about how it looks, go to a marine supplier and pickup some sail repair stuff.

Of course they will say it needs to be replaced. More $$$ for them that way. If the $$$ is coming out of my pocket I'll check with upholstery first to see if they could fix it without being too noticeable.

To be more specific, a body shop damaged the top and they 'seem' to be taking responsibility. One Honda dealer I called said a quality repair is better than a new top, because a bunch of other things can get screwed up. Two local soft top repair/replace shops said the top must be replaced, since a repair will eventually tear/leak later on. This sucks!

aggie,

For what it's worth, when my top was damaged, it was also at the hands of a POS body shop. They ripped it along the side seams...the resulting slit was maybe 1" long. I'm sure it's of little consolation, but you're not alone...

In my situation, I took the car to several upholstery shops, and they all said the top should be replaced. I don't believe money was a motivation for those shops, because they all recommended I get it replaced by the dealer...none of them wanted to accept the responsibility of attempting to repair the top. In my case, the unanimous advice was to replace the top.

Shoot, in that case ofcourse. You need to replace it with brand new top. If you want I think you could get either blue or beige as well.

I don't know about anyone else, but that blue top is just kind of fugly (no insult intended for anyone that may have it).

Beige top on a Sebring with a black interior. Oh yeah, that'll work.
