Can the rear plastic window be swapped with the newer glass version?
seriously guys, if you take care of the plastic window it will look just as good as when you first bought the car. why pay all that $ just to get a glass window, go and invest in a hard top, you will never regret it that is for sure. it turns the car totally into a different car.
Yeah, a buddy has one and you are right that it turns the car totally into a different car--but, that's the catch. I am happy with my car as it is (hell, my gf just shelled out several thousand dollars to get her f-body in conv.) Why would I want to "unconvertibilize" my ride?
I am the second owner of my car, the first owner did not, apparently know about the finnicky nature of the window. At this point it is completely unusable (I tried plexus and every other suggestion). I am even considering selling the car to get an '02 over the damn window--I have suffered too many near misses b/c of the total lack of visibility in my car to simply shrug it off.
Local dealers were unsympathetic and the local soft-top shop wants 350.00 for the window and 300 for install (including making it a zippered window). Each replacement window would cost an additional 350. Thus, 2400.00 for a permanent solution doesn't seem so bad and I would MUCH rather have a glass window in my soft-top than a roof on my convertible.
I know that some people aren't nearly as bugged about the window as I am, so I guess it is just a matter of taste. I guess maybe I can skip fixing the window and just drive fast enough that the rain never gets in...red lights might get to be really exciting, though...

To my knowledge the ony "recall" on the window is service bulletin that they xerox for you. THis bulletin details how to prevent damage and remove minor (REALLY minor) scratches. If you can't see ou the window (like me) it is worthless.
If you are serious about getting the glass rear window, I would sell your '00 or '01 outright (yes, sell the whole car) and apply the $2400 towards a brand new '02!
A $2400 outlay is by no means an investment simply to change something from plastic to glass. I'd suggest getting the hard top and taking good care of the OEM plastic window.

I guess it depends upon your previous level of investment in the car, i.e., how much money have put into parts, how much can you get back out, and/or what can you transfer to the next car, and how much time do you want to spend doing it.
For me, after considering doing just what you recommend (and even having a few offers on the car), the time and effort involved just isn't worth it. The $2,400.00 in question will be money well spent based off of a) my distaste for hardtops, in general; b) the amount of time I don't have to deal with transferring parts, c) the amount of $ I would eat based off b; c) the fact that the tax alone on a new car purchase would be almost 2 grand where I live; and d) the fact that I only have like 15k miles on the car so a new car isn't going to make up for the 6-7 grand I am gonna be out.
Not too mention that, non-ecomically speaking, I am very attached to my S--I waited a long-time for it, got a really good deal, and have had a lot of fun in it. All told the ROI of a new car purchase is less, for me, than just buying the new soft-top. Group-buy anyone?
Just my .02 (or my $2,400.00, if someone would PLEASE post the article).

First and foremost I'm sorry I did not phrase the section heading correctly. The gentlemen with the nsx in his user name made an excellent point.
I feel that this issue is likely the most widely disliked feature of our cars.(other stereo).
I don't own a scanner so it may take some time to post it and I don't know if honda may get
pissed about posting there documents openly. I just installed the factory 50w pioneer speakers
honda code 483436. The speakers are no MB Quart's but for the $20 I spent was well worth it.
The speakers are co-axal and the tweeter ad's a dramatic difference over the stock 15w ones.
I't took me about twenty minutes to install the door speakers and the 02' shift knob, three screws on the door and clips and a reverse threaded screw on the shifter, simple stuff. Sorry for the tangent and for the dude who posted above me about the seatbelt recall, The recall comes
in basically a ziplock sandwich bag and includes some plastic which I believe is related to the retractors. One reason I could understand where you are coming from is the install is something
fierce, for such a small bag no tech is waiting to do the next! gotta go just got my 18"SSSSSSSSS
