can s2000 beat the 3000 vr4
well i have the s2000 and my big brother have the 3000 vr4 and i was woundering if i can beat him... i want to race him but we are having to much snow.... has anyone race one yet?
Well depending on the Year of the VR-4 it is possible. The 3000GT will bog badly if you do not dump the clutch at 6000rpms. But if He launchs it right you are toast till about 50mph at which point if you launched well (very well) the s2k should pull away till about 120mph at which point his better CD(coefficent of Drag) will put him ahead. The 96 plus VR4s top out at around 160 and change...pre 96s about 153 or so.
average magazine specs for them (we all know how accurate they are)
S2000
0-60 - 5.5
1/4 - 14.0@98
top speed - 150
1996 3000GT VR4
0-60 - 5.3
1/4 - 13.8@96
top speed - 160+
A close match...at least at lower speeds

I think Argetni described it well.
The car would have been a slug at lower speads because of its weight. The only reason its ass is saved is because of the AWD system.
It will toast you for the first 500-600FT no matter what launch you have.
If you are a good driver and have practiced your launch technique you will catch up to him right before the 1/4 mile point and end up winning on the 1/4. From there on it is all s2k ... Only if you go to a top speed bout might he pass you again. Un-likely though because although the vr4 has a higher top speed by about 3 mph, it takes forever to get there, and most likely you would have put so much distance on him by 140 MPH that the race will be over.

Maybe one day people will figure out that this car is not meant to drag race.
Put these two cars on a dry road course and the S2000 will eat the VR4 for dinner. Too big and heavy to compete with our go-cart like S2000.
My $.02

So what if the car is not meant to drag race. It can still kick ass. A sports car is a sports car, and straight line accelleration still happens to be important no matter what you drive.
We have heard the "its not made for drag racing quote before". I would doubt anyone here bought this car to build a drag monster.
Many people are still interested in straight line comparisons though since they rule out the "driver factor", more then anything else, and not everyone can race on the same roadcourse because of geographic limitations.
I find stories about people beating others on a track day less important since they are heavily driver dependant.
Drag racing is still an easy way to compare your times with other cars and other people from around the world since a 1/4 mile is a 1/4 mile no matter how you look at it.
Sorry about the long ....
Thank you,

What, we can't compare our times to others?
Live and let live!
The point of my post is that 90% of the driver's of an S2000 can't extract a 5.2 second 0-60 time. A good 0-60 and 1/4 mile time in our car is very driver dependant - much more so than most in my opinion. Most cars depend on the driver to some degree - the exceptions being automatics with traction control - just mash the gas.
People get carried away with all of these magazine numbers and take them for gospel.
Our car was meant to be driven on road courses and twisties like the Dragon.
Sev: Call Larry at Body Works and see what he bought his S2000 for - I believe it was to build the fastest S2000 in the US.
