I have a $1000 deductible with progressive and I had a huge rock chip repaired for free. Same thing when I had Allstate.

It is cheaper for them to pay for a chip repair, then to have to pay for a whole new windshield. A kind of preventative maintenance!

Thanks guys! And yup, everything that has been said here is true. I talked to a few one-man shops yesterday. The Novus guy didn't have time to do my windshield until next week, but I found another guy from Glass Xperts who came over to my home and did it last night. The repair isn't 100% perfect, and the location of the chip is still somewhat visible (albeit less so), but it's been filled in with clear resin and won't crack. Now, it just looks like a pit in the windshield.

I filed a claim through my insurance. I haven't heard the final word from my adjustor yet, but all indications are that the comprehensive deductible is indeed waived for windshield repairs. The repair folks told me that you get, on average, around 5 cracks per year for free.

Thanks again...

They never look perfect, rather it keeps the crack from spreading!
