Check you oil level, since your car is new it could be burning oil.
Full throttle does make a difference compared to partial throttle during the VTEC Transition.

Actually all it means if there is a huge change in acceleration is simply that the car isn't making enough power before the cam profile switch. Thats the problem with the Celica GT-S... it falls off badly before lift, so thats why some people claim to feel it "kick them back in their seats" more than we do... we just make good power before VTEC...
the '04's VTEC will be even less noticeable.

There was another big thread about this maybe six months ago. Different people described it all sorts of different ways, including "smooth."
To me, I've always seen the transition as being very subtle. The engine note ascends, the torque increases, speed seems to increase geometrically... there's a lot of sensory input going on, so I always figured it was just a difference in perception between different drivers, not any difference in the cars.
I will say this: If you experience something like in the Road Warrior when the Humongus opens the valve on the nitrous bottle, please let us know. That is NOT what it's like in my car.

Ahhh, I have never driven a Celica so I have no basis of referance. I see what you mean now.

I have also noticed that on my '01, the VTEC transition has become more pronounced with the addition of mileage. I've heard that the F20C1 becomes stronger up to about 10,000 miles, however, it feels like mine is still getting stronger. I'm at a little over 20,000 miles now. I say just give it some time. Just my $.02.

tygac, when you say "brand new" do you mean as in a new '04 or as in a new '03?
In general we only have experience with the 9-grand redline engine. It is possible if yours is an '04, between the gearing and the revised engine with 8-grand the VTEC may not be as pronounced anymore. I don't know, just speculating. But for sure, I would like to know '03 or '04.
