I've had my MY01 since March 2001, with absolutely no problems. It's been everywhere from Maine to Georgia, and my only complaint is the attention from cops. Of course, that's going to be a problem with any similar car. Just make sure you take the car to a dealer who respects it and you, and you should be fine. I would definitely buy mine again, given the choice.

It's been said so many times on this board, but we don't post and say "My car is great it gets better every day". People post when they've got problems. The casual visitor here can get a very false impression of the car overall. I'm sure that applies to lots of other car boards too. I've had my S2000 since April 2000 and it's my daily driver. I've got absolutely zippo.... natch in the way of problems. it really does get better every day. It's a fantastic car to drive. Stop worrying and stop reading the board till you get your car!

No problem here. I would recommend to anyone who understands that they are buying a SPORTS CAR. A great sports car, but a sports car nonetheless.

I love my S2000.

Good Luck

Jim

For the money, it is a hard car to beat.
But if a tree fell on it, would I get another one? NO!
I have had mine since 10/01/99 and it has 35k miles on it. So I drive mine.
I expected problems from a first year car. What was somewhat of a surprise was customer service

I have one of the old ones and have had no problems with it at all. I picked my car up in Sept. 99 and it's been running great ever since.

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone above who says that this is a fantastic car. I have an 02 with about 4500 miles on it (I got it on Nov. 13), and I have had no problems at all with it. I couldn't say enough good things about the car. I absolutely love it. I'd have to spend $20,000 more to get a car that I'd rather have than the S (an E46 M3 or 02 ZO6). I looked at a 330i when shopping around for the S, and I had the chance to drive a friend's 330i this weekend. After driving the 330i again and having done 4500 miles in the S, I am even happier with my purchase now. The 330i is a wonderful car, but it can not compare to the S in terms of raw sporting appeal. There's nothing else like it now for anywhere near the price. So, I'd say get the S, and I have no doubt that you'll love it as much as we do. Honda's are great cars, and I'm sure yours won't let you down.

I've had mine 2 years, 1 month and 8 days w/19,500 miles. No major or minor problems. I have had the 1-2 grind four or five times when I was rowing from 1-2 extremely quickly shifting at near 9000 rpm.

I was in the same boat as you. I was trying to decide if I wanted the S2000 or a BMW. I then found this site and read about all of the problems that you state. I was quite worried. I did some more research and as stated by 9000RED, the tranny/clutch problem was addressed in the '02 model (as more owners report in we will have a better idea of how the changes fared).

I decided that I should at least take one out for a drive...THAT was my MISTAKE...I fell in LOVE with the car in an instant. I was lucky enough to test drive one with about 5K km, so I was able to VTEC almost right away. In Toronto, there is a dealership very near one of our main highways (Ideal Honda @ 401/Dixie for all you Torontians ). You turn left from the dealership, have to get right quickly onto the 401 and wham hit it through the on ramp. That little run, did it for me. As I exited the on ramp, the Z3 (don't know if it was a 2.3, 2.5, 2.8 or 3.0) that was refusing to move out of the right hand lane was behind me as I merged.

A couple of days later I took a Z3 2.5 out...it was nice, but the S2000 put this on my face quicker, longer and I can't wait to get mine.

As an added bonus, I believe this car made it on the Top 10 list and reliability was used as a measurement (someone please correct me if I am mistaken here).

Hope this helps.
