Not everyone has problems with their cars and mine certainly doesn't as well ... I don't think you should cancel your S2K purchase because you see the problems encountered by board members. It's a matter of whether you really want the car or not. Nevertheless, it's one of the best production cars the market can offer out there for that sorta price tag.

WHAT..dont cancel..I have had my 01' S2K for about a month and I have loved every minute of it....the looks, winning races its the best feeling. The car kicks a**. I have had an integra and prelude vtech and just the Honda name itself goes without saying. As far as the dealer is concerned...ask them to produce the records of the maintenance they've performed on S2000's, if they are worth a SH*# they will have no problem doing so. Usually the bigger honda dealer the better. Believe me...the tranny knocks and the occasional idle issues are ALL WORTH IT!!! Enjoy..if I chose an S over a Boxster S that should tell you something.

I picked mine up September 30, 1999 and have had no problems. Period! And I race it every 6 weeks or so, mostly autocross but some track events as well. The only thing I've replaced are the tires.

The car is even more enjoyable to drive today than it was when I picked it up. You'll love it!

True... Cars that have been in production for many years at high production levels are your best bet if you truly want to minimize the possiblity of problems. I might suggest a Honda Accord or Toyota Corolla.

If you want absolutely trouble free, no hassles, no teething problems garanteed, stay away from BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguar, anything Italian, or the Honda S2000. I can think of no sportscar in recent memory that does not have a few "issues" that affected some small percentage of owners.

Let me put it this way... 50K + on the odometer had it since April 2000. Perfect so far, This car incredible, it's a Honda, for the 00' and 01' have the TSB's done correctly and it will last a long time. Show me a car that doesn't have some sort of issue from time time.

Honda Quality.

I have been reading the board A LOT and have noticed a trend of:

I'm also in the market for S2000 real soon...

I know that Honda has announced tranny improvements for 02... but
are we so sure that Honda cured the 1-2 grind and clutch rattle problem?

The only supporting evidence is that so far none of the 02 owners have any
problems.

(Or did I miss the official announcement?)

I have a 2001 (red) with no mods. Factory fresh. Had it six months with no problems. Never lost a drop of oil, no noises, no shifting problems. Use it a my daily driver and just past 21,000 miles, I think it is running better. Could be that I'm driving it better since I just completed Skip Barbers two day driving school? I race anyone that approaches me - win some/lose some but have a ton of fun.... There is nothing I enjoy more than driving this car.

No problems with mine.. I have a 01 and have never had the 1-2 grind. I do have the decel buzz (all s200s do?), but I look at that as a good thing... I get a free clutch at 35,999 miles...

Posting problems is a large part of what this site is about. It's been said before, nobody posts that they have no problems, it's simply not interesting. Go to any site like this one and you'll find the exact same thing. We tend to over analyse everything. In general, I would say the the S2000 is not a "problem car" by a long shot. People naturally have some complaints about this or that (like yours about the dash layout). What you get here is the honest truth, no fluff. These are real owners with real cars that drive them everyday (for 2 years in my case). I am very happy with mine, I can't think of a single reason I wouldn't want it. That's not to say that there aren't a few things I wish were better or different. If you can think of a car which has zero issues and leaves you wanting for nothing then you should buy that car. My S2000 is the best purchase I've ever made even if I did pay too much and I needed to have the transmission worked on. The dealers suck (as a generalization) so don't expect them to look out for your best interests. Be ruthless. There are good dealers and you can find out which ones are the best by asking us here.

Good luck on your new car, mine rocks

Got my '02 in November. 0 problems. If you like roadsters, the s2000 is a can't miss purchase. I also have a 98 M3 and IMHO, the build quality of the Honda is actually a little better than the BMW (love both cars though for different reasons). If you do purchase the s2k and you do have a few minor problems, just get them fixed...then you won't!
