It's difficult to get to 9 without speeding unless you have a 1st-2nd gear opportunity getting on to the highway.

I try to take it to at least 8 every time I drive it which is about once/twice a month

Agreed with what everyone said in the above quotes. The car was made for and meant to rev that high, don't be afraid of it. Honda wouldn't have allowed it if it was a problem, just be careful and don't miss shifts. Enjoy

For real? I DD and hit redline on a fairly daily basis. You know there is a rev limiter, right? Car won't let you over-rev on acceleration.

Ever ride a motorcycle? Those things rev to like 13k or more. Our Honda car engine has more in common with other Honda bikes than other Honda cars. So 9K isn't really that much in comparison.

Here is the only thing you need to worry about, check your oil. Check it often and find out if your car uses oil and how quickly. So long as you aren't low on oil and engine is well warmed up (and road is clear and dry), no reason to hold back.

3 words.

Freeway
Entrance
ramp.

When I'm at 3 bars, oil is at the proper temp, and my tires are warm, I'm at 8,900 rpm for my first and second shift. The next shift is into 5th. It's so much fun and I'm really not doing anything Illegal, since the speed limits around my area are 65 mph.

The F20C loves it!

Expedition of speed they can get you for sounding fast far reach but you could get pulled for a chit chat.

I bet he's hitting 9k now.

Peak horsepower is at 8300 rpm so Honda definitely intended you to take the car to redline. There is a reason the spacing of rpms on the tach stretch out from 6000-9000, thats the golden zone.

If you have never driven the s2000 angry then you have no idea what it is capable of. Redline every gear and throw it around like it just slept with your girlfriend. You will love it.

And to the guy who said you will hit 103 in 4th. AP1s are closer to 120 in 4th than 100. I think its like 117.

the valve train was engineered to safely rev that high. you'll be fine man. shoot, when you're shifting at 6500rpm, you've barely started the VTEC

Those Expeditions at speed are really something else...

OP: It's your car. Do what you want. Does it really matter all that much so long as you are enjoying the car? It's not the choice that I would make, but that's not the point.

That would kill my MPG on higher speed freeway cruising. I've had the car sitting around 4.5-5K for hours. In vtec that must be mid teens mpg.
