You might not be far off on this one. There's a few Viper owners who also have an S2000. I'd bet some of these people look at their S as their "beater".
I am going to spend most of my day tomorrow waxing and detailing my daily driver truck. Even when I get my s I will still keep up the appearance of my 'old' 94 p'up. To me it is a matter of pride.

Tell it like it is! Ahhhhhh. . .some people. I can never understand (and since have stopped trying) why some people own an S2000 and are not as "involved" as I am! Just here in New Bern, we have a few S2000's (about 5 or so) and none of them are members here on the board. Sure, they wave but they have no interest in our meets or drives.
Different strokes for different folks, I know. But I was soooooooo not like the way I am now before I owned an S2000. It has transformed me into a true enthusiast and I thank Honda everyday for that!
Who could have ever said that by spending $32k on a piece of machinery that I would meet some of the coolest folks around. Folks that I consider good friends. Better friends than I ever had in high school or college. God knows I spent more money at college and I don't have a single friend like an S2000 buddy!
Too me at least keeping the car clean is part of the ritual. Trust me, most of the enthusiasts aren't afraid to get the car dirty or drive the car to the limit. I am quite anal about the appearance of the car but it sure as hell doesn't mean it doesn't get driven. I call BS on anyone who says they only bought x car only for its mechanical prowess and did not like its exterior apperance etc. Can you honestly say that you would buy a car that looked like a turd on wheels... well we'll make an exception for FORD owners j/k...
Anyways I have met 1 women in this world who actually knows how to take care of a car on a mechanical much less a physical appearance level (not that they don't exist). Unless your wife is a real enthusiast... buy her an SUV... at least then she won't taco your rims... etc when she hits a curb (and all of you wondered why SUV's are so popular)
On that note... anywone want to purchase my new wheel cleaning liquid?
