Car alarms (which ones are the best ??)
Hi guys
I am well aware the stock car alarm in the S is not very good. My dad wants to upgrade the alarm to something better. Please can you tell me what the best car imobolizer/ alarm is and if possible with price and instalment costs .
Thanks in advance
PS : money is not to much of a problem
and we need it to protect our nerberg blue/blue/blue S it is worth

Since your dad has a convertible, he may want to look into an alarm with a motion sensor. If anyone reaches into the car, or cuts the top, the alarm will sound. I've got an Alpine 150R on my S, and while the radar offers some added peace of mind, it's a double edged sword. Even with the sensitivity set fairly low, little things can set off false alarms. (the other day my alarm kept going off--turns out a little piece of paper on my toll token wrapper was being waved back and forth by the wind.) The sensitivity also seems to increase as the temps drop.
If you do get radar, I'd suggest getting one that's easy to adjust, from the remote. Check out Clifford and Alpine.

Srf2k, what you're referring to is called a proximity sensor. I also have one of these in my car. Getting a good alarm is one thing, but getting a good installer is another. Make sure whatever alarm you choose, you get a really good installer. The guy that did my alarm made sure he adjusted all the sensors so that I don't get false alarms.
Also, a big part of getting false alarms might be due to the placement of the proximity sensor. Once again, a good installer will know where to place the sensors for maximum coverage.
