is this car awesome???
Even after 2 years there is not another car out there that I would probably by over the S2000. When I wanted the S I was a convertible virgin, so now that the honeymoon is over with the whole convertible thing, I would consider a fixed roof again. But when I was shopping for a car, it HAD to be a convertible and the two cars that I really really considered was the SLK sport with the AMG package (silver) and the S2000.
I ended up with the S becasue it was a year younger than the SLK, had 10,000 less miles, had a better waranty, I got a better interest rate at the dealer, and it was $3000 cheaper.

When I bought my car I was looking for some sort of 2 seat sports car. In my mind I wanted the viper. However, I could not find one under 50,000 that I liked. that being said I started to look at all the options. z3,z4, tt, box, box s, ...I even drove a moded fiero Gt I think it was an 1988 with a V8 small block under the hood. All this time, I never even knew Honda had a s2000. That all ended when the salesman who was looking for my viper showed me the s2000. He told me to take it for a spin and $27,000 later here I am. You have to decide what is important to you that is what matters. In the class the only car that comes close to the experience is the Box s. That being said, there is no comparison of the two cars cost vs. value. Bang for the buck, you cant beat the s2000. I could not understand how anyone would pick one of these cars over the s2000 (considering the price difference). Maybe, it you need a boost in confidence and like saying to all your friends look at my BMW....or maybe you are insecure and afraid that your friends will say Honda? Why didn't you get a real car like my Box S.... I am not sure? I bought the S2000 and enjoy spanking the likes of z3 box s you name it...
all this talk of maintenance???
most here put synth in their S2000's...what's a synthetic oil change cost???
my dealer charges 80 bucks.....that ain't cheap.
it's cheap-ER, but it's not head-and-shoulders cheaper.....
on the other hand, you guys in the states have it good....the boxster S is a $50K car and the S2000 is a $30K car.....
up here it's 75K and 50K repsectively.......so we don't get into the "costs-more-to maintain" arguments as much as you guys......
add a few options and 15% (yes, you read correctly) sales tax, you better have 60K in your jeans if you want an S2000 in canada.
at the CN price points, we're well above the national average price of a car (dare i say reaching marginal exclusivity), so a few bucks here or there on maintenance isn't a factor in the decision making process.......
Seem a little bitter?

get a car that suits your specific criteria. think about what you look for in a roadster and narrow down the choices. there are so many different categories you can base your decision on. buy or lease? are you going to drive it everyday? if so, are parts affordable to replace? straight performance or prestige? something as trivial as which car looks best in your favorite color can be a way to determine whether you'll be satisfied with your purchase. for me, it came down to 5 final cars, 2 of which were roadsters/convertibles. i decided that since im going to buy, use it on the weekends and nice weather only...i had to decide on the 2 roadsters: 04 s2000 or an 04 bmw 3.0i z4. i rated performance and overall value over the pure name sake and asthetics. other than that, the carbon synchro gearbox is an appealing offer i cannot refuse. so, needless to say, my '04 grand prix white/tan is coming in march
. do some reading and research...and good luck!

My suggestion is to do what I did. Test drive them all. I did; except for the Z3 (don't care for the looks).
Flat-out the best car is the Boxster S. That's what I would have done except for the cost.
But, the MY03 in my garage was sold after I heard my wife come back from the test drive. The S has the best sounding stock exhaust of the bunch, and the sweetest shifter also.
If you want the highest performance car, and money is not an issue, get the Boxster S.
If you want the car with the most soul (is that possible), get an S2000. You will never be sorry for that decision.

Let's face it. If a Boxster S costs the same as a S2k. 90% of the people on this board would be driving a Porsche. But when taking price into consideration the S2k is for the most part a better choice
