Car Buying Advice
Alright, thank you so much, and thank all of the rest of you as well! I am going to go with the AP1 as after having driven both cars I find the handling of the AP1 to be more exciting, and as stated before, if I ever grow tired of the dynamic toe change, I can modify it to handle more like the AP2. I definitely find the 9000 rpm redline to be more intoxicating and just find the AP1 to be a little more suited to how I like to drive. I am so excited to become an s2000 owner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember the old mantra: the AP2 is the better car but the AP1 is the better S2000. The AP1 was exactly how Shigeru Uehara wanted the car to be made and Motoharu Kurosawa (Gan-san) absolutely loved the way it drove. The dynamic toe was a feature, not a bug. They really only sorted it out to dwell complaints from less capable owners, not because they thought it was bad. I have an AP2 and have always preferred the AP2, but I've driven a ton of AP1s and appreciate them for what they are as well. They're different cars but neither is worse or better than the other--the owners just have desired use cases and that's where the differences come in.
Also, you can literally upgrade almost everything in the AP1 to the AP2's, including the rear control arms which a lot of people do. In that case, you get the 9k RPM and the stable handling. If someone really wants to get better power, full bolt-ons and a tune will net around 240 whp with a bit more torque which alleviates any issues with the lower torque curve. We tend to forget this community is huge and not everyone is a boomer/collector that is scared to modify their cars. This car is still heavily tracked/raced and this platform is absolutely dialed after damn-near 30 years of development.
Also, the F22C1 will absolutely consume oil. My engine has perfect compression (210 across the board), zero leaks, and no blue smoke out the exhaust, and I've had it drink oil running it hard. If you're not running the car into VTEC, yeah, the car will not consume oil. But then your entire thesis comparing the F20C to the F22C1 falls apart because you're not even using the engines how they're meant to be used. You're just putting the car around and scared to run it how it should be ran in the first place.

I agree you can upgrade most any part you want on an AP1 to be like the AP2 if you wish though, and that can be a great choice which allows you to get into the platform at a lower price or with an AP1 feature you particularly like, like the higher redline. Just to be clear I never meant the AP1 was bad and the AP2 good, both are indeed great, but I am firm on that the AP2 is just plain even better, having objective improvements versus some AP1 advantages that are subjective. Is the AP2 price bump worth the improvements? Up to the individual to decide.
Btw, Gan-San had no complaints at all comparing the later model to the earlier one, both were just fun to him. He did give a small compliment to the new model though, stating it had better ride quality
