Default Car Cover?

Just a quick question:

Is it worth getting a car cover for upstate NY to throw on top of my s2000 during the winter months of storage?

With that being said, I know some people have them on this forum... and have no need for a cover. Anyone willing to let an OEM car cover in very decent condition go?

it depends on where you're going to store your s2k. if you're gonna keep the car outside, the oem cover wont do much since it's basically just a dust cover. I just let mine sit outside with snow covering it.

oem is great as a dust cover (for covering inside- mine is almost under one)...
outside, the oem would need to be covered by a waterproof cover and you would want to take them both off periodically to check on the car.
a good synthetic topped by carnauba is the best protection for under a cover or for no cover-

For outdoor storage in harsh NY winters I would definitely cover your car. You would want to use a soft base cover, such as the Honda custom fitted accessory and then cover that up with something as basic as those cheap blue tarps available from hardware stores. You can trim the tarp to properly cover the car then have a local upholstery or awning shop reinforce and run a 2" hem along the edge .. then add 4 grommets within the wheelbase to anchor a pair of bungee cords for peace of mind.
I'm OK with the Honda material but it is no match for the natural, cotton based, flannel backed, 3M (or similar) topcoated fabric of the past. I forget the trade name for that product, only remember the industry supplier, trade only, was The Astrup Co and the color was a beige khaki.

I sit my Porsche out in the snow but it is covered with an aftermarket OUTDOOR waterproof cover.

Weatherproof car covers are a God send for any season. ESPECIALLY if you have a black car that you want to preserve. I have the fortune of driving another car to work and back during the week so my S2000 stays covered until the weather is right. If its raining that weekend, I wont drive it. Black S2000s are so difficult to keep clean.

Alright thanks for the info... anyone know where I can find a cheap new/used OEM car cover?? I was thinking of using it more along the lines of keeping fingers and dust off of it in a garage during the winter.

(lol nippon, good movie)

Bgoetz, thanks for that... I will look into it.

Can anyone test for the Wolf Evolution cover? Is it the best bang for my buck?

I forgot to add in that I will be using this outdoors too eventually.

If you search on here you will find that the Wolf and Covercraft are both great covers. Both sell an Evolution 4 cover, which is actually the fabric. The Wolf and Covercraft just take the fabric and make a cover from it. Covercraft seems to cost a touch more than the Wolf. I love my Wolf cover it is VERY well made and a sturdy strong material, not just this dust cover type that the Honda OEM is. The only issue that I had was that it was pretty difficult to get it on the 1st time, it actually took both my wife and I to get it on. Since that 1st time it has gone off and on great.
