Car and Driver article
December issue of C&D ranked S2k 3rd behind Mustang Boss and a 350Z. The recorded 0-60 of 6.3 seconds. They did have a hardtop on and the car was relatively new. Any comments??
You'll find plenty of comments on this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=89171
Not my car..............................
They did compare an S2k with a hardtop, so as far as I'm concerned they did not compare my car, which does not have the hardtop. I would ignore this entire article, and wait for the Z to come out with it's convertible, then they can do the comparison CORRECTLY, instead of comparing to an S2k with a hardtop which applies to about 1% of all S2k's.
For all 5 of you that have a hardtop, sorry you have 3rd place car for the period of time when the hard top is on, but somehow I don't think you really care.
This article is for the sole purpose of giving mustang and Z owners something to get all giddy about.

I still believe that these are unfair tests. The S2000 is NOT an off the line quarter miler. The car does not show its true colors until it finds tight turns with long streights. Let the Zs and Mustangs play where they will. Until they come over to our play ground there is nothing to talk about
I agree it was silly to put the top on the S. But does it really make a difference in the performance? Doubt it. However, the green engine likely did. See all the comments in the other thread.
Near as silly was the choice of the 180 hp TT instead of the 225.
As to comparing it to the Z? I'm all for it. Not everyone insists on convertible v convertible. I've seen plenty of queries here, other forums, magazines, even reportedly Nissan's own PR package to the S2K. So, why not compare them?
Anyway, ridiculous as the test was, they probably give you enough info that you'll know which car is right for you, regardless of their finish order.

Has anyone read the article? They admit that they are pushing the envelope, but they stupidly forge ahead anyway.
This really made me mad when I read it. I almost cancelled my subscription. The picture of the group is splattered all over the cover of the magazine with the sub title of "$35,000 SPORTS COUPES". The title of the article is "Hot Tin Roofs". My roof is vinyl and the hardtop that they installed is aluminum!
The first lines in the article read " Any dolt can John Hancock the paperwork for a convertible and call him or herself a sports-car driver, but we know the real deal when he or she pulls up alongside, shaded by a fixed roof. Welded-on tops don't let the wind in to rustle your follicles, but they do offer generally stiffer structures, cleaner aerodynamics, lower weight, and more handsome lines compared with their hanky-headed rivals."
Later in the article they say "No letters, please. We know we did this to ourselves."
I'm sorry, but the writer is just a stupid jerk and the basis of this article is absolutely ridiculous. There must not be much to write about these days, when they have to resort to something like this.
The final kicker is that the car had only 369 miles on the ODO when they were testing it against the other cars.
All in all a total waste of magazine space as far as I'm concerned.
