Default car has a problem

when i take off and just let it idle in 1st gear when i go to excelerate it cuts out and jerks like you were cutting fuel to the motor... you have to push the clutch in and rev it up to get it to clear up... what is causing this because it is driving me nuts... it will do it in second as well...
this isnt a lack of driving skill or anything im doing it is definatelly in the car... anybody else having this problem? help!!!

Same problem in the 1st gear. It happens more after being in stop-and-go traffic for a while. I think it's normal.

Is it related to slight bumps or potholes on the road? Then it is normal. If your foot jumps even a millimeter on the pedal the car starts jumping as well. That is why some cars (eg. BMW's) have a button and you can switch from non-sport to sport mode, which makes the car more responsive to the throttle. So in non-sport mode the car can be driven around town easier. To stop the problem, when the car starts kangarooing, shift to higher gear.

no its not from bumps in the road.... you can be on a perfectly smooth parking lot.... from a dead stop go into first gear, let the clutch out and just let it idle threw first.... when you go to give it gas it stutters around and wont clear up until you push the cluth in and rev the motor.....

NORMAL???? No way man cant be.... surely honda has it together better than that... this seems like a problem that needs to be looked into....

and mine does it after setting all night.... does it everytime, hot or cold, doesnt matter....

Do a search on MAP sensor problems. Your Manifold Pressure (MAP) sensor might be in need of a replacement. My car had a "lurching" problem in VTEC until I replaced my MAP sensor.

You can rule this possibility out if your car accelerates fine in 2nd and higher gears.

Interesting, my car behaves similarly when idling excessvely, or in heavy stop and go traffic. I put it down to the car not liking the increasing engine heat.

"Engine heat soak" has been called by other members. Can happen when it's really hot out or have been revving high or long highway drives. All you do is give a little more gas when taking off.

I've been trying to figure this out ever since I started driving Japanese cars with manual transmission. It not only happens to my S2000, but also the Accord, the Civic, and the Toyota Corolla. There is also a "stuttering" if you just take the foot off the gas (in first gear) and let it idle down to almost stop. I always wonder that is causing that.
