Default Carbon Hoods, and Mirrors!

hey guys,

just wanted to know what carbon fiber hoods actually weighed less than the stock hood. My friend has a brand new seibon mugen style hood that he will sell me for 400 bucks if i want it, but ive heard that it isnt any lighter than stock...

so what hoods are best in terms of weight and quality? Is it worth buying a seibon for the vents and looks?

And there are a LOT of choices for carbon mirrors for our cars.
Squarecraft, APR, amuse, carbing, etc

who makes the lightest, highest quality, nicest looking side mirrors?

thanks

matt

Only the hi-end, hi-dollar JDM Hoods are lighter than stock. Honda did a great job and this is an area they did it right.

Almost every CF mirror is lighter than stock. Pick one. But if you want the best, JDM is the way to go.

ever stand in front of you car and look at our mirrors from that angle ?? not sure if they changed in 06 but they look like it directs air inside the car if your windows down.. i noticed that after a wash the other day..

You need to get dry carbon if you want weight savings and they are big $$$$. AMUSE or ASM.

Actually, the air would most likely want to fill in the low pressure area in front of the mirror glass...like an airplane wing, the air always tries to rejoin the air from the other side (I learned this in Aerodynamics class years ago while studying to be a pilot)...

A guy on the UK boards has just changed his Seibon bonnet to J's, he weighed all 3.

OEM = 18.5lbs

Seibon = 22.8lbs

J's = 10.6lbs

too lazy to take picture again.. and i know what your saying about the air wanting to reconnect with the air on the other side..

but if i or you stand a infront of the mirror and look at it.. not sure if it changed since 2000 since mines an 06.. the area i circled is angled and looks like it directs air inside the cabin area

i just noticed and wanted to share it thats all hehe

That's hard to believe. I hefted both the Seibon CF hood and my OEM aluminum one, and the CF hood was discernibly lighter. I was just curious b4 I put the hood on.

Anyway, dry carbon is the way to go on a RACE car where every pound matters. Otherwise, it's wasted $ IMHO.
