Default Carbon Rotor for S2000???

I found these pics while JDM shopping.

I don't know if there is such a thing, but this rotor looks suspiciously like carbon.

Notice how thick the material is, and how much smaller the vanes are?

What do you all think?

There is a such thing as carbon rotors, but those don't look like em. I don't think carbon rotors have cooling vanes, and they are not slotted.

I don't think it would be possible to use carbon rotors for the street because of the required operating temperature that must be achieved before braking becomes effective.

This car is probably a track car. I'm noticing the cooling duct work, and the rubber suspension components near the brakes are foiled-over.

The coloring of the rotors is also interesting. I doubt there could be any kind of coating on the surface that contacts the pads, so that must be the inherent color of the material. Maybe it's from some kind of treatment, but I'm thinking it could be carbon.

Anything is possible but the rotor you found is from Project Mu

A little search and I found this...

http://www.project-mu.co.jp/e/product/scr-pro.html

The rotor you mention is the SCR-PRO
Material: CV cast iron and aluminum alloy

Their other products...

They're heat treated cast iron. The oxide surface hasn't been removed, thus the color. The box was a giveaway. Check out this site:

They do look nice!!

Thanks!

It never takes long to get an answer around here.

If only I could read Japanese, I could have saved you the trouble!

Will these rotors rust like the stock ones?

yeup, they do. there are also alternatives in the two piece which are not so costly.

regarding carbon rotors though - the problem with carbon rotors is the operating temperatures in which they operate. they must be warmed up to work. the Enzo has a carbon/cerameic rotor which doesn't require heating up to work: i.e. they work fine when driving around town. otherwise, carbon != on the street.

Thanks, everyone for the info.

I think I should close the thread, so it will go away. I don't want to fool people into thinking there is a carbon set of rotors for our car.
