Default Carmax

Just curious if any of you fellow S2k people tried taking your car into Carmax and if so what price do they normally give you?

Like do they really go off KBB trade in value? Or NADA / Edmunds etc.?

The prices fluctuate quite a bit.

Example: I got quoted on KBB for 20,000 for trade in, while on NADA its 23,000 (or edumunds i forgot)

TIA

They will give you a low-ball offer. I promise. They will also rape you if you buy a car from them. No-haggle policy? WTF is that? Their cars are already more expensive than other dealerships anyway. They seem to pride themselves in the 9,000,000 check point inspection, which is nothing more than a bunch of monkeys in the back playing with their tools.

I bet they will offer 30% or more less than KBB price.

The reason I ask is my GF's brother recently brought his 99 or (00) corolla in and the offer they gave was actually surprising!

It probably would've equate to what he woudl get for it on teh market.

There is a big difference as the Corolla is hot right now(ie excellent mileage) so people will pay a premium for it(dealerships WANT used Corollas as they will sell). Look at what used Prius's are going for(close to original MSRP). An S2000 would not be near as desireable and you will likely get lowballed as a result.

When the wife was selling her Miata, we decided to take it by CarMax to see what they offer......they offered us $4k under what we had it on the market for. We walked.

On the other hand, her parents owned a Cooper S for a year or so and took it to CarMax. They actually offered what her parents paid for it brand new.

Wouldnt an s go pretty fast if you put it on the market for kbb trade price any way. Those prices are pretty low.

03 58k miles only 11k i would imagine you could sell it for that very quickly on the market.

well thats teh thing .. i was curious as to what carmax offers if it relates to Kbb trade in.

If it relates to that instead of say Edmunds (23,000 vs 21,000) the I would say F that.
