Default Carmax

Anyone recommend buying an S2k from Carmax? I know they charge more than the KBB value of a car, but it seems like they're strict about accident history, mods, etc in the cars they sell.

Hey I work there! lol yeah they won't sell cars which have had any type of frame/flood damage. We had a 2005 AP2 Silverstone with red interior in our showroom for like a day but then someone transferred it

Sounds like buying a slightly more overpriced S2k from them is worth it. Plus the transfer option is nice.

At the same time, should I still get a specialist evaluation from a Honda dealer, like I would buying from a private owner?

Guess I'll keep my eye out for one.

My limited experience with Carmax has been positive so far. I haven't heard of people getting junk cars from them so I wouldn't worry too much about an inspection unless something during the test drive or my own visual checks gave cause for concern.

People who modify their cars often put them back to stock before selling or trading them in and many accidents are repaired without any type of report being filed that would show up on a car history report. I haven't used Carmax, but to me it sounds like by using their service you are paying more money for a car that you could just run a vehicle history report on and have a mechanic inspect before purchasing.

My ex-wife had 3 accidents with her Accord and they didn't find anything wrong with putting out an offer to buy it. I was a bit surprised but we did use their offer to about double the Subaru dealers offer on trade in. I wouldn't suggest that you put your faith in any dealer even them but that's just my opinion.
