I doubt thiefs would target low, performance oriented vehicles that are often modded, as high likelihood there is a tp or hfc.

The best target would seem to be cars with dual cats (twice the reward for the same effort to jack and get under car), that are already high (suv, etc), and unlikely to be modded.

Our cars are the opposite of that ideal.

Not saying don't take precautions, just saying adding mechanical deterent is less effective than careful parking.

That's true, they have so many other choices that are easier they would likely avoid an S2000 before any basic passenger vehicle. I know a lady with a 90's oldsmobile that has gotten hit 3 times.

This is what they did to the Jeep. There are identical pieces on either side of the pipe/cat attachment, four pieces in all.

^ nice idea, that would definitely slow down the removal process, so they would likely move onto something more simple.

That is exactly the idea: eliminate the low hanging fruit. I asked why not use rebar as other places but the guy said this is some kind of stainless that is high temp and does not rust like rebar. He said it actually is more difficult to cut with a saw and makes noise.

That's a way good idea, but correct me if i am wrong, grade 8 threaded rod would be harder to cut than stainless? A 3' length of 3/8" at Fastenal is around $20. These are being cut with cordless sawzalls I take it, grade 8 and no lube, good luck. Grinders would make fast work on anything but far too noisy.

Um, couldn't they just cut the cat itself, right next to where the welded in rod ends?

Slightly larger diameter to cut through is all.

The people doing the dirty work are not that bright, a bunch of petty no-talent thieves/punks. As soon as they see any kind of welded rods they will move on, if they tried to cut it they would quit after 30 seconds.

Yes they could if they were selling for scrap, no if they needed it for resale parts. Either way it is more work and better than nothing giving you a fighting chance of maybe they move on to easier fish.

Its my understanding from this thread that their objective is the scrap value of the previous metals. So they wouldn't care if have to cut cat housing.

Yeah, agree that these aren't Mensa candidates, but seems presumptuous to assume they wouldn't think to just cut a little farther down if they see metal rod.

Especially if they encounter it more than once. Once they figure it out, its easy to bypass from then on. Rendering such efforts moot.
