Default CEL today, help

So I was about to go to work, turned the car on and it started and sounded perfect, but the check engine light came on...
So I turned her off and looked at it and started again, same thing.
It was idling perfect about 1500 or so, "warming up"...
So I was like, I will let it warm up, once it did the idle was sparatic, going from 800 to 1500 up and down...

So I drove my 99 neon to work... (arg, no power) so what do u guys think, Im gonna get it scanned by the obd II when I get home, but you guys have any thoughts of what it might be.

I think it might be a sign of catastrophic engine failure; we'll know more when you tell us the code.
