Now, before i start i'm going to mention that i donot go out looking for races on public roads (anymore). As my driving record and insurance premiums reflect, i've been a good boy for about 6 or 7yrs now. But......Yesterday i'm on my way to purchase a '92 protege (beater) getting off the LIE onto Nichols road and a "riced out" GTS starts tailgating. He's got the red paint the yellow 17 inch rims, yellow calipers, big 5 inch wide (yellow)front window tint and the whole nine. So i switch lanes...just to verify what his intentions are....he switches lanes right behind me and downshifts....okay. I change lanes again...real fast and brake so that i'm behind him. I wan't to chase him down.......so i can eliminate "i got a bad down-shift.....wrong gear...blah...blah...blah. He takes off (3rd gear i guess). I shift into third myself at about 7rpms.....and start decreasing the 3 car lengths between us rapidly.....right when i'm about to shift into 4, some suv decides he want's to slow down in the other lane blocking me in.....so i shift into fourth not wanting to keep my "900mi on the odo" car in 8500-9000 range. I trail him and when the coast clears i sail right by him full-throttle as he's looking at his speedo/tach like "what the f@#k". As i clear his front bumber i'm in vtec mode and i pass him still in fourth by about 3 carlengths before i decide to "pull up" and shift into 5th. I slow down and he gives me the thumbs up as i pull off. Againg, i'm not endorsing racing on public roads.....just adding a measuring tool for those of you who post "what cars we can beat" posts.......

I don't endorse racing in public. The S is a great racer but leave it for the track. You never know what's around the next corner.

Example:

My car at its height of pride and joy.

My car after an accident while driving to train station to go to work.

I was driving at the posted speed limit. Image how much worse it would have been if I were speeding.

When and if I get my car back from the Body Shop, you and I should meet.

Hopefully the winter turns for the best soon and we could have a LI Meet.

Everyone should always drive safely.

I am considering purchasing an S2000 over the next few days and am from Eastern Long Island .. out by the Hamptons.
If I do I will let you all know ... so you can count me in for a LI meet!
Believe it or not I cant decide between a 300zx TT, Supra TT, Corvette and S2000 !!!
The S2000 is the less expensive, logical (because its brand new with a full warranty) alternative.
What kinda of gas mileage do you all get ?
Does the car move at all in the snow ? It will be my daily driver.

If it's going to be your daily driver in NY, forget about it. But there are more qualified people to give you the dirt.

I know if I lived in NY or any Nor'easter city, I would not get the S2000.

Michael,

There has been several conversations in the past about the S2000 as a daily driver. Some people in the Northeast do use it as their DD, however I think several people would agree with me when I say it is better to leave the car stored during the winter.

I know with my car for example, it tends to gets very loose in the rain. I have personally never driven the S in the snow. Like with any car, you need to use your head and drive cautiously. You have to remember the S is a relatively little weight rear wheel drive car.

Sincerely,

Mario Castano

Mario, 2 things.... congrats on the pending fatherhood, you may lose the S2K, what you gain with your twins will be priceless though. Also I did not like your front end on the S2K at 1st but it is growing on me quickly... great looking car.

Micheal, don't make this you're daily driver. As i said in my post....i was on my way to purchase a 92 mazda protege..which i did buy. A couple of weeks ago when it snowed I drove my s2000 to work in westbury 8 mi. before the plows came out on some packed snow.....anyway.....man i did so many 360 i could've been one of the extra's in the "fast and furious". Get a "beater" and save the stook for nice sundays and saturdays in the winter.....and pimpin' duty in the spring, summer and fall.

Peace
