Default Chains on the S2K? Will this harm the car

I was wondering if installing chains on my s2k to take it up to the mountains would in anyway harm the vehicle? If the only problem will be the rocks hitting the bottom of the bumpers..I will put some tape around those areas. Any idea?

Check your owner's manual page 191

"Because your Honda has limited tire clearance, mount only SAE Class "S" cable-type traction devices on the rear tires...
Metal link-type "chains" should not be used. No matter how tight they seem to be installed, they can come into contact with the body and the suspension..."

-edit-

I had never heard Class "S" cables before. Of course, I became curious. I found these with a quick google search;

http://www.pewagchain.com/traction.htm

Passenger Car Chains
pewag Chain offers a full line of "PL" Twist link and Cable Type snow (tire) chains for winter weather driving. Designed for use on today's smaller lighter vehicles, especially vehicles requiring limited clearance CLASS "S" traction devices. Always slow down when use of tire chains is required. Never exceed 30 M.P.H. when tire chains are installed on vehicle.

pewag "PL" Tire chains conform to S.A.E. Class "S" (limited clearance) specifications. These traction devices are suitable for use on both front wheel and rear wheel drive vehicles requiring Class "S" traction devices OR cars with no clearance restrictions. Manufactured with case hardened steel cross chains for maximum wear, durability and traction. Electro galvanized finish and packaged in a durable, reuseable plastic box. Always refer to vehicle owner's manual to determine suitability of any traction device before use on vehicle.

YMMV

Reed, that pegaw site was interesting.

www.honda.co.jp used to have a plastic chain option for the S2000.

http://www.japanparts.com/HondaParts/S2000/Wheel.htm lists a Japanese made rear chain option for the S2000.

Don't put chains on please. It's a sports car not a snow mobile. I know it's your car and, yes, you are welcome to do as you please, but think about it. How upset with yourself are you going to be when some gets scratched/ tore up/ broken/ or worse? JMHO

The only owners that I know of who can "officially" purchase the Honda plastic chains are those in Japan. You should go to their forum and ask this question.
