Default S2k reliablity similar to other hondas?

I was talking to a co-worker today about the Elise and the S2k and some of my concerns using either of them as a second car and storage in winter being a bit of an issue, etc... He, being a car guy himself, suggested getting the hard top on the S2k and selling the Acura- this makes some sense. But I am curious if the S2k has the same reliablity as most other honda's. I know it won't be as refined as the TSX is and I will lose a little storage space for cargo and passanger's- other then that they seem to be some what the same?????? To be honest after the crap that happend last weekend it wouldn't upset me to have a 2 passenger vehicle- I am sure inconvienent at times, but infrequently.

For winter I would just put a serious set of snow tires on it and it should boogie through the white stuff, so I am not worried with that. Besides rear wheel drive may be fun in snow!

But my main concern is to keep my visit's to the dealership an absolute minimum, reliablity is with out a doubt the most important feature of a car to me. I understand preventitive maintnance and wear items but I ownd a couple of MkIV VW's prior to the Acura and honda's I have now and do not want to go through that again.

I've not had a single mechanical issue with mine, 2001 51,000 mi. about 1,800 miles have been supercharged. I say go for it. The S2k is alot of fun.

From what I've seen and read our S2000's are very reliable. The minor qualm I have with the car is it's refinement isn't quite at the level of the rest of the honda line. It's the cost that comes with driving a purpose built sports car in some regards; once I got over the fact that this car will rattle/squeak more than any other honda, I've come to love it.

Let's see: car has been on the road for three years and two months, 25,000 miles. Outside of completely routine maintenance, I have had the spark plug recall performed. The only other defect, which developed after end of warranty, is intermittent failure of the 'auto down' function for the driver's side window. The fix is not particularly expensive, and some day I may get it done. I consider the S2000 to be absolutely bulletproof. The only 'bullet' I failed to dodge was a huge Buick which made an unscheduled, unauthorized meeting with my rear bumper and exhaust system a couple of years ago.

The S2000 can be used a daily driver, but after a couple of years it can sort of wear on you (or on me, anyway).

If you don't want to shell out the cashola to keep the TSX and the S2000, I would suggest ditching the TSX- unless you put absolutely no money down when you bought it you should not be upside down, man do those things hold their value.

Then get an old Integra or Accord coupe or something to use as a beater. You you won't have to worry about damage to the top in inclement weather, snow tires, dings and dents, salt damage, etc.

I cannot imagine you would buy an Elise to drive every day, that would be misery once the novelty wore off. For the price of an Elise, you could get a brand new S2000 and a really decent beater that won't scare chicks off.

the s2000 is reliable as other hondas, but one thing you should keep in mind is you have to be somewhat careful with which honda dealer you take your s2000 to for service (assuming you don't do your own maintenance). since it's not a high volume car like an accord or civic, certain honda techs aren't as familiar with it and have been known to screw things up like use the wrong oil filter or wrong tranny fluid, among other things. depending on where you're from, you should check with your local s2ki group and see which dealers they recommend.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am going to seriously consider this option, I could swing both of the cars but am not sure I want to have both of them at the same time. I put a lot down on the TSX so selling wouldn't be an issue at all, and in fact with putting about 3k down on the S2k my payments would be the same as my TSX. I am capable of servicing the vehicle myself so that won't change my opinion any, with the local dealer support.

Dealing with it as a daily driver would be my only concern, because I do like the the refinement of the TSX- but it is SLOW. But I knew the TSX was slow when I bought it, its just starting to get to me, as you can see I am looking.... I've always liked the S and in a perfect world I would keep the TSX, but there are enough concerns to make me think about keeping only one car.

Ever thought about supercharging your TSX? The engine's supposed to respond well to mods.
