Yeh, handbrake isn't too hot on mine either (yes, it is properly adjusted). On any resonable incline, I have to really pull it up hard all the way, and then I will kinda jump up and down in the seat so it settles, and to make sure it ain't going anywhere.

For what I consider good reasons, I always park head to head and always leave the car parked in reverse. I live in a very flat state and seldom use the hand brake unless for some reason I'm on an incline and can't find relatively level parking. If you have the option, park in a level space since this also prevents the car in front or the back of you rolling into one of your bumpers.

Based on this portion of your statement I'd say the other person made a logical decision in initiating an insurance claim. If you said anything flaky like this @ the scene I would have immediately filed. Put your car in gear after you pull the e-brake for added insurance.

Sorry that you learned an expensive lesson. At least it won't happen again!

Even if left in gear, an S2000 can roll down a hill. You should still always leave the car in gear though, and use the parking brake, and turn the wheel into the curb if you can.

I always do all of the above, but I'm wondering how putting it into gear after engaging the brake is better than the other order.

They could probably refer you to the manual on parking your car.

which would be better for parking on a hill, putting it it first or in reverse? does it matter which gear you leave it on?

thanks for the reply guys.... I parked at the same restaurant/spot for couple times before so I didn't put it in gear... but yea.. I learned my lesson but the good news is that if other car damage is less then 749.00 my insurance won't go up!
