A cheap seat lock alternative I made.

Yup, the thief/vandal credo:

"If you can't take it...BREAK it".

I'd worry they would thrash the seats, the dash gear, and the paint if they encountered seat locks.

I think if I was robbin a ride and found someone trying to outsmart me or interfere with my semi-professional hobby, or simply just denying my seats that I was working hard for...I'd leave something special behind as a thank you and "you ain't as smart as you think" message.

Would the locks work? Sure, I'd have seats to sit in whilst I await my new ones, but I'd be dealing with a shattered gauge cluster and urine soaked carpet for my penance.

There's is something kinda of backward in spending cash dollars and funding an enterprise that exists only to exploit my fear for a solution that might help me and might hurt me and might not ever be needed.

It's kinda like the TSA and the Patriot Act. The bad guys have already won by making us spend tons of money, give up liberties, re-write the constitution for something that might happen and IF it happens WILL happen regardless.

A homespun solution? I like it!

Kinda like packing a Ruger 10mm.
The constitution wasn't rewritten, it was just ignored.

I need something for my seats...

how often do you remove seats though? probably 90% of the people here have never taken out their seats, and those that do, a majority of them has probably done it only once..
I've had the seats out of my car a LOT!

Audio installation (several times)
Traded Black for Red seats (once)
Sound Deadening installation (once)
Removed the red seats for sale (deal failed, put them back in)
Removed the red seats AGAIN for sale (deal failed, put them back in)

I'll admit I may be the atypical person in this case, but either way, chipping JB Weld out of an allen head is a PITA.

I always thought that those stickers on windows that say something to fact of your stereo cant be stolen or you have a car alarm were bad ideas. But, the more I think about it, a sticker should come with the seatlocks that will warn the thief ahead of time. Then they may not even try, or they wont be surprised and less likely to thrash the inside of the car. Just a thought.

If they know the seats will be hard to get out or take a good bit of time, most thieves will pass right by and look for another.

You're right. I can afford them but I get more satisfaction on figuring out a good solution myself rather than whipping out the credit card.

I definitely would shoot the guy in the leg or something if he tried any stunts on confrontation and I would most definitely take a baseball bat to him and break a few bones. I have had my seats stolen and the cops didn't do anything to trace the guys although they left lots of evidences. Sometimes I really feel like hiring a PI to find the guys and give them the worst thrashing they have ever got in their lives.
