Is it happened due to the filler cap? I had the same problem and didn't come off for a while for about 4-5 days... Went to service and they scaned it and it was due to the filler cap and they turned the light off for me.

I drove for a year with the check engine light on and did code analysis nearly every day. Misfiring was indicated, but the engine ran fine. Three dealers could not solve the problem. I finally drove from Baltimore to Cleveland and left my car in the hands of hardtopguy. His people found the problem in a few minutes -- a faulty sensor in one of the injectors.

A check engine light can be tirggered by an enormous number of problems, some very minor and some quite serious. The codes provide a clue, but only very general clues and are not worth an awful lot in my experience unless the tehcnician working on the car is very knowledgeable and willing to go through a large number of diagnostic steps.

Definitely check the thread out and don't wait to do something about it...when mine came on four years ago (before I was even on s2ki), I didn't know squat about codes or how to resolve it. But I had read the owner's manual and knew enough to have the car checked out IMMEDIATELY. Even if it's minor, you will be glad to know that and not cause serious damage to your car by continuing to drive it. In my case, the problem was serious and resulted in the now famous short-block replacement. Good luck!!

Until he gets the actual code, let's stop all this guessing. It could be any of a hundred different things. Gas cap? Cat? Gosh darn, maybe it's the Flux Capacitor.
