Default Check engine light

Hi,

I was driving yesterday entering the freeway so i decided to gun it a bit. I went to around 8000 rpm in first and second gear. Around 60 - 65 mph i noticed the check engine light flash a few times then turn off. Can someone tell me please what this means? The check engine light is off now. It only flashed like 3 times or something like that. I have an 02 s2k incase you needed that info. If someone knows what this means please let me know.

Thanks, Al

Unless you are a cyborg, the only way to find out is to have the code read. However, since there is no check engine light now, I don't know if a corrected code will still be readable.

if it was the check engine light that was blinking, it would have stored that info in a snapshot. even if the light is not on right now. you'll have to use an engine scanner, not a code reader but a full on scanner that can bring up the stored info in your computer.

You sure it wasn't the Maint Reqd light?

1) Check all fluids-may have been a low level indicator.
2) If fluids are good then have the "Pending" codes pulled along with any "freeze frame" data.

If you get a code or "suspect" freeze frame data post here for advice. The codes can be pulled for free at most part stores (i.e. Autozone, PepBoys, Etc.).

P.S. Oh...and what he said

That was going to be my question as well.

If you are sure it was the check engine light, pull the code.

It's easy to check and see if it was the Maint Req light. Turn on the ignition and let us know if it is flashing now.

Thanks for the replys guys. I will check the fluids and drop by autozone see if they can read any codes. I know it was the check engine light and not the maintance required light. I was really wierded out about it, stareing at it instead of the road :-D. Do you guys think a dirty air filter might cause this?

If the light was flashing this means you have a miss fire. The light flashes cause it can cause damage to your cat. If this happen there should be freeze frame data.
