I'd expect a few "sassy replies" to the "Chick Engine Sing" but if your refering to the "Check Engine Light" it could be a lot of things, but if you know the car hasn't been overeved, then the most common thing is a loose gas cap. Did you refuel recently?

WHAT?

I'm guessing you ment:

"Ok, I have a check engine sign on in my car and I wanted to know if it affects the horsepower."

I think I'm close, but there are so many random words and usage going on in your statement I could be WAY off.

As for an answer to your question.--Horsepower is not effected by the check engine sign. However, what is causing the check engine sign could affect horsepower. Get it?

Don't be so sensative. I was serious, if you have a check engine light on, it could be a lot of things, some are serious, but the loose gas cap is no big deal.

Give the guy a break. He's not from "around here".
A CEL can be triggered by dozens upon dozens of things. Some "codes" may put the car in "limp" mode and then yes, power is affected. If it's a minor codes, like a secondary air injection issue, then this is not likely to affect power.

We have 2 O2 sensors on our exhaust. The one in the header is the "primary" and if it malfunctions, the engine will not run well. The one in the catalytic converter is the "secondary" and has only a very minor effect on the way the engine runs.

ps. You should have stated this in the very beginning. This would have eliminated many of the strange replies you got. You know the saying, "Crap in, Crap out!"
