Default Check your radiator cap

Last week while checking my oil, I thought I should check the water level since I haven't checked it in a while. The water level was fine and I put the cap back on.

After about 25 miles, a mixture of highway and city miles, I noticed that the temp gauge was at 4 bars (AP1). I got real nervous as the gauge has never gone above 3 bars.

After I let it cool down for an hour the water was about a quart low. I put some water in it to get it back home. At home I found a leak coming from the radiator cap. As it turns out, the rubber seal was deteriorating, becoming gummy and must have torn when I put it back on during the earlier level check.

I bought a new Stant cap and everything was fine. So the point to my long post is to check your cap and if the seal seems gummy replace it before something bad happens.

Stant instead of genuine Honda OEM or pricey Japenese tuner brand? That's going to offend a bunch of people. (I have a Stant oil cap: the o-ring fell out of the OEM and I couldn't find one so I bought the Stant cap.)

it offends me that you guys used a non oem or expensive japanese type oil cap! dont you know you're supposed to spend 1000's of dollars for your car since you paid so much for it???

I replaced the original Honda cap with another Honda cap once before because of gummy seals. But the 2nd Honda cap was only about 2yrs old before the seals gummed up again so that's why I went w/ the Stant cap.

BTW, you don't check the radiator fluid level by opening the cap, you do it by looking at the overflow bottle. If the bottle is empty, the fluid is low.
