Default Checking Oil

Two different sides, two different readings what gives? One side is on the high mark one side is one X below the high mark. Has anyone ever noticed this? Which one is better to go by or should i just go in between the two.

You are supposed to average between the two marks to get your reading

umm no.

one thing i noticed about the s2k is that you have to wait a while to let the oil drip down from the cylinder walls or where ever it is to get an accurate reading.

last time i checked my oil after an oil change it was slightly below the full hole. the next morning it was above it.

i jus dump in 5 qt's and go.

A difference of 1/2 and "x" to a full "x" is not unusual. If in doubt, repeat the dip and take the lowest. You can have your oil level anywhere between the "add" and "full" mark. As long as it's in between, the difference of 1 "x" is nothing to obsess over. Here's a post I did some time ago on how to check the oil level:

It's not rocket science, but a little common sense goes a long way.

Not only for the S 2000,but most engines; What goes UP,must come DOWN.!!!

Also, THE worst time to check the oil is between the time after a cold start and the time the oil has gotten warm. "Cool" oil "hangs". Either check it HOT or stone cold before starting the engine for the first time of the day.
