not to mention, the owner's manual even says to USE THE LOWEST of the two readings.

I noticed that when I check mine there's a consistent solid line of oil on the xxxx grid part of the dipstick. But above that there is always a streak of oil making it look like it's WAY overfull. Is that streak up top just from when the dipstick picks up some excess on the way out?

Wipe the dipstick dry with a paper towel, stick it back in, pull it out and check oil level.

word.. I generally check a couple times. I think in xvipers oil change FAQ he says to check 10 times I might be making that up

Just check the oil cold before you go out for the day, its easiest to read the dipstick then and you won't burn your fingers.
