For what age of child ?

Technically speaking they (HONDA) don't recommend children under 12 years of age riding in the vehicle, I think that is listed somewhere in the manual, it's been a few years since I've looked at it. There are no seat anchors in the car so that kind of tells you not to use a child seat. I'm sure people have done it though. I guess if you have to do it all you can do is forward facing and with locking clip, maybe get a tether ring bolt fabricated behind the seat somewhere. On an Ap1 and 04-05 ap2's the airbag should be disabled, 06+ Ap2s have weight sensors in the seat which should help.

I've had my son in the car using a booster seat well under the age of 12, but never in a child seat. I would not put my child in the car with a child seat but that's just my opinion.

Not all AP2s have have pass. seat weight sensor for the airbag, just 06 and later.

I put my daughter in a high-back booster and she uses the shoulder belt.

To secure a child seat with 5pt harness, you'd have to use a locking clip on the shoulder belt. I think it'd be really hard to get it tight enough though, cuz you wouldn't have room between the car seat and center console to get your hand down there to buckle the belt. Not to mention it would stretch the leather to the point of no return. If you really need to do it though, find a car seat tech and a fire station and see if they'll do it.

Good thread. Can we see some photos of your setup, from those of you who do use a baby seat or booster seat in your S2000?

I have been researching exactly the same thing, although at this stage my focus is on booster seats.

And to those people that just flippantly say "Wrong car" or make similar useless comments, I have to say that while thry S2000 is obviously not going to be the safest possible choice as compared to a minivan or SUV, it is still a reasonably modern car that was required to meet the safety standards of its time. Plenty of car enthusiasts transport their families in their enthusiast cars that are even older, yet think they are in the clear just because the kids are in a back seat. But, is the back seat area of VW Mk2 GTI, designed around early 1980s safety standards, safer than the front seat of an S2000? How about the tiny tiny back seat of a 964 or 993? I think it is very debatable, yet you will often see those cars with baby seats in the back at shows or meets, and no one seems to raise an eyebrow. Also, interestingly, the later NB Miatas have factory LATCH anchors for the passenger seat. I'm sure thry also recommend in the factory manual that you don't put a baby seat in the car, but they recognize that a person might choose to, and thus give them the safest possible option. Now, I would prefer a baby seat in an S2000 over an NB Miata, any day.

It's up to each person to make their own decision based on their own circumstances and environmental factors, as to what they choose to do.

short shift above speaks sense.

what year is your car? regardless, i don't believe our seats have the LATCH system hooks.

You will likely need to use the existing s2000 belt to secure the child seat. That existing belt will need to be locked down with one of those 'H' shaped flat metal thingy's from baby's R us. And it needs to be blessedly tight. I sat on the child seat as i secured it. Expect your leather seats to be left with indentations where the seat sits.

ultimately, push the seat as far back as possible so as to minimize your child's exposure to the airbag, should it go off. the later models, as noted above shut the airbag off automatically if the seat is occupied by a passenger under a certain weight.

I've used booster seats for my boys in my AP1, but run the risk with the airbag.

good luck

In defense of the S2000 design, the distance from the pass. airbag to the seat in it's farthest back position is really far, like 3 feet maybe ?, so I never had an issue putting my son in the car with a booster seat. My son just turned 12 and I've had him in the car since he was 8 years old.

Young infants in a child seat should be rearward facing to best protect their necks in a head-on accident, no matter how safe the S2000 is based on crash ratings you can't defy physics. A rearward facing child seat should not be used in the S2000 unless you disable the pass. airbag. The best location for a childseat for an infant is in a rear seat center position, with the S2000 you are still exposed to side impact accident risk even if you make the necessary adjustments with the airbag and tether bolts. It is ultimately up to the parent to make the decision.

You can get permission to disable the passenger airbag from your state (provincial in Canada) government afaik, and have a qualified installer do it for you. Honda use to have a proper kit to do that for the S2000 but I don't know if all dealers will want to do it, they have the right to refuse to do the modification.

my 2 year old will be riding with me.to meets this summer in his car seat. I have been reading and educating myself about putting a child.seat in the S for the past several months. I know enough to feel comfortable putting him there. from what I ahve found and seen, this goes all the way back to when air bags were decapitating little kids, is that injuries occur when the child is NOT securely belted in.
as for.protecting the seat leather, seat protectors are sold.in the childrens.department in stores.
