Default chipped windshield today

Driving home on the Garden State Parkway a rock hit my windshield just left of center and left a good sized chip on it. Can this be fixed or am i gonna need a new windshield to pass inspection?

Thanks

Andy

Happened to me about 3 weeks after I got the car. As long as the chip is not in your line of vision, you should be able to have it fixed. I used Glass Doctor. Took them about 30 minutes to inject chip with epoxy resin. Almost 4 years later, no spider crack. The chip is still visible, so if that bugs you, you'll end up replacing your windshield.

hey i got a chip on the right side of the windshield and 2 weeks later it spidered crack 3 different ways. You might want to get that chip filled. But it will always be there. If you do have full coverage on your car you should also have glass coverage. I wanted to filled my chip but never got a chance to so once it crack i just got it replaced. If its only a little chip your insurance company wont cover it but if the crack becomes bigger than the size of a dollar then they'll get you a new one.

If the crack hasn't grown or gotten moisture in it you can have the crack filled w/ epoxy. My BMW stealership offered this service using "Glas Weld" technology. Google Glas Weld to find their website and it will explain how they do it. I believe they vacuum the air from the crack and fill it w/ resin or epoxy. good luck.

Actually most insurance companies will cover chip repairs at with no deductable. Why? It is simply much cheaper to repair the chips than it is to wait and replace the windshield....

Really ? I will check with my insurance company, Mercury, to see if they will pay for it. I had a chip at the base of the windshield, so far no spidered yet.

Insurance should cover it.

My farmers insurance did when I got a chip a while back.

I just found out my company will pay for it. I have 2 of them, so I'm going to look into it.

Same thing happened to me today.....and checked this thread for advice. Unfortunately, my insurance company doesn't pay for anything outside of the deductible.
Guess I'll try to find a local glass repair dealer on my own.
