Factor in everthing if you can...

College student, living in southern california. Certified car nut and driving fanatic, wanting a reliable, yet fun to drive car, as an in-between car from now until an M coupe after college. Price in the 22k range and I want to put mileage on and not have to care, cuz im frugal like that. What do you suggest, 04 WRX or an O2- maybe 03 S2000?
If you have driven both, that would be great, I myself have only driven the wrx...

 

I like the S2k for fun to drive, pimp factor, and it Honda. But WRX is practical, fast, easy to tune, track or quarter, and more space. The insurance on the WRX is cheaper then the S2k. If you weren't in college I would tell you to get the s2k but you are.

 

You're hardly giving us enough info to make an informed decision. I'm a college student with an S as my only car and I manage just fine. That doesn't mean, however, that every college student would.

 

I actually screwed up.... I got to "reliable" an then hit for the s2k.... but I think you'll do better with the WRX. It should last you at least through college, so long as you don't mess with it too much. It costs about 10k less, which could alleviate financial burden that you really don't need to think about whne you are in college. Hopefully it won't chew through tires like an S2k might if driven a little agressive(more on the financial burden and maintenance bit).

On the other hand... it's not nearly as sexy as an S2k... but then, there's plenty of time for that later.. WRX is safer handling, you are in a full cage(no convert) and hopefully on the insurance as well.

Get yourself a Miata. You can get top of the line right now for 16-18k. Drive stock or supercharge for less than $2500. They are trouble free and bullit-proof. People routinely put 200k on them without incident.

 

I'd say get the WRX. You can still mod it and have fun with it, plus it's more practical if you want to haul your friends or other crap around.
Then you can keep it and use it as your beater/daily driver once you graduate.
Only problem is that I'm not familiar w/ the reliability of the WRX.

 

single, student, sunny SD, sexy S.......no brainer.....get the S and have fun. Life as a student is tough....lighten it with one of the most fun a car nut can have in a car....go for it....you only live once and you will always remember in the future how as a student you had a true sports car....when you have a family you can and will HAVE to have a 4 door...

 

I agree..get a 2 seat top down sports car while you can. Of course all 2 seat sports cars are impractical by definition!

 

Get the S. Chicks dig the S. You'll get more coochie with the S. Sorry... but I'm just telling the truth.
