Anybody install one?
I want to replace the existing stock rear-view mirror with one that dims automatically with bright lights. Like the ones found in most luxury cars. I got one on my TL and I love it!
Any place that sells them?
Thanks for any input!

I put one in with the compass/outside temp option. Got it from J C Whitney - I think around $249. Installed it myself. Requires switched power up to Courtesy light area and threading of temp sensor through or behind windshield trim, through firewall to front grille area. Less difficult than you might think. I did mine when I installed my hardtop. For that you have to remove the windshield interior trim parts anyway to install the new front top striker plates. The mirrors from Whitney and OEM are all made by the same company (Mito) They have a web page and you can buy direct from them.

Bought mine for $199. Installed couple of months ago. Gave detailed info on how to do it, button, etc.

Do a search under "auto dimming rear view mirror"

Nice writeup on the Miata mirror install.

Is there still no mirror that fits our button????

I may have to go with the Miata one even though I didn't want to mess with removing the button. Plus you can get it with the outside temp which would keep me from buying a separate guage to put elsewhere.

Has anyone tried to use the Donnelly mirror? They have one with or without temp and they don't use up the mirror surface to this (the display is just below the mirror).

Of interest to me was this:

http://www.donnelly.com/shopdonnelly/Insta.../camlockins.asp

If the S2000 uses this "camlock" for the OEM mirror, then it would APPEAR we may can order the camlock kit an not have to hassle with removing the OEM mount button.

Also, having a daily driver with an auto-dim mirror is not as nice as you think. It makes it real hard (impossible?) to spot a cop behind you at night. Some of the autodimming mirrors have a lead you are supposed to connect to the backup light/circuit. This is to defeat the mirror when backing up. I think I would wire this to a toggle switch if I installed one. So I could "peek" behind me when I wanted to.

Before I had one of these, I ASSUMED they would only dim if some idiot got behind you in a monster truck or with the high beams on. In fact, having anyone behind you with lights on at night will make it dim - which is not as usable as I would like.

Of course, if you have a MY2000 or MY2001 just don't use any plastic cleaner on the rear window and you will have an "allways dimmed" rear view

Interesting idea for the toggle switch to turn off auto-dimming. I didn't bother to connect mine to the backup light circuit.

To answer nsx555 I searched everywhere to find one that would fit without changing the button. In fact I was assured the one I bought would. But it appears it will fit any OTHER Honda model. The S2000 has a unique mount.

Interesting to hear that some people prefer these auto-dimming mirrors. I have one now in my Avalon, and have also had them in a bunch of rental cars. I personally think they all don't dim as much as they should when someone with bright lights is behind you. I was frankly grateful that my '02 S2000 came with a regular flip-lever mirror.

I have actually considered removing the one from my Avalon and replacing it with a regular flip-lever mirror. However, I would hang onto the automatic one for when the day comes that I ultimately sell/trade the Avalon for another sedan.

Kind Regards, Chris
