The msg below is from from a request I just made concerning the Donnelly mirror. Their answer matches up with what andrewewing found out - it won't fit our button. Wonder why we had to be so special?

*****************
The Honda S-2000 is not listed on my spec sheet for our mirrors. Please visit our web site at www.donnelly.com and then click on the shopdonnelly linx. There are three different mount types. Match the pic of the mount to the one that is on your truck. If it is a "Header Mount" then you will have to remove the header mount and installed the wedge mount. Sorry I could not help you out more. Thanks Craig

Subject: Auto-dimming Mirror

Will your auto-dimming mirror fit on the windshield button of a Honda S-2000? I do not want to remove the existing button to add another.

Thanks,
john

Can someone that has removed the OEM mirror or has the shop manual look at the Donnelly page and see if the S2000 mirror mounts using the "cam lock" method?

Maybe no one has ever tried it ?

I would like to have the mirror for the outside thermometer. Also, I don't like the position of the OEM mirror (I can't hide the V1 above or behind it). I am not too interested in applying a blow torch to the existing button just to change it, though.

I have a Donnelly autochromatic/temp/comp on my stook.
I can ASSURE you the mount is NOT a regular cam lock. In fact if the mount is not unique to the S2000 it is very rare. There are NO adapters for it. That being said it's not a big deal to go to the wedge mount that the Donnelly uses.

Wet cool sponge on outside of windshield, small butane pinpoint torch on low, hit the mount for 2-3 seconds, with pliars gently TWIST, do not pull, should come off, if not hit again 2-3 secs. REALLY not a big deal, just have to have the b-lls to do it.

What if I just leave the OEM button in place (I don't even own a blowtorch) and mount the Donnelly button sligtly below it?

One of the reasons I want to get a new mirror is so I can position my V1 above or behind it as I do in other cars. The OEM mirror is too close to the glass and too close to the header to do this. So having the mirror a little lower and farther out would be a good thing (I think).

Does the Donnelly have the reverse wire to disable the auto-dim?

Thanks for the info!

I think the mirror base of the Donnelly is just too big to leave the oem mount there but I guess you could try it. I dry positioned mine with the oem mount still on but it would have had to be positioned WAY down on the windshield. If you've take your mirror off you've already noticed the oem mount is pretty big.

If you took off the oem mount you could put your Donnelly in the best position for your Val. I don't want to talk you into it but it's a piece of cake to take the mount off.
