Do you have to buy the S2000 chrome wheels separately like you would any other rims or can you pay someone to chrome out the stock wheels? Spectre and another guy with a white S2000 did this and I'm wondering how.

How much are they or how much is the service?

I know you can chrome the existing OEM wheels. It doesn't seem to be a problem to chrome the aluminum.
I have found a few places here in Dallas that do it. I'm thinking this is a perfect wintertime thing to do.

I am hoping someone will post a cost for this. I have seen prices of about $100 a rim, but there is no indication of size, etc...

Any confirmation from anyone on price?

I had my stock wheels chromed. here are some pics:

They cost $600, but I had to have the tire store send them off for 2 weeks to be chromed. Normally stores can arrange one-for-one swaps on most popular rims, but it may be difficult to find a place that has chromed S2K wheels already in stock for a swapout. There are also places on the web where you can send them. Presumably, they send you back replacement ones straight away. But what a hassle getting them boxed and shipped! I suggest you call around places that do chrome wheels (e.g. tire shops) and see if they can get immediate replacements. Also, be careful.....there are chrome wheels and chrome wheels. You get what you pay for. Cheap means the chrome won't be thick, or last very long.

I would think it would be the same for bikes as cars. Most any yellow pages will list chrome/plating services under automotive. Best is to ask someone who has had something chromed for a reference. The problem is:

a) Getting the tires/wheels off of the car/bike.
b) Getting the tires off of the wheels.
c) Having no transportation while the process is completed.
d) Getting the tires back on the wheels.

Seems it would be best to do this at the same time as replacing tires.

Anyone seen an S2K with "black chromed" wheels? That would be interesting.

1Y2KS2K, your car looks great! If i had had the option i would have had a hard time choosing between the silver and the white!

How did you find center caps, i believe those are not chromed stock caps?

Keep in mind that Chroming aluminum will:
- Weaken the wheels (makes them brittle), and
- Add weight.

This is a significant enough issue that Mercedes dealers have a bulletin recommending against chroming wheels.

BassMan: Thanks for the compliment. I didn't shop around for a particular color: I just saw the white in the showrooom and said "I've got to have it". (I only went to the dealers to see what the excitement over the S2K was all about. Then I realised why!)

The center caps are actually made of plastic, and the chroming company has a special process to do these - like layering on ultra thin strips of tape - so thin you can't see where the tape overlaps. The problem is that they can't avoid covering up the 'H' logo, so I bought extra front/rear badges, cut them up, painted them red, and fixed them to the center pieces.
