Try driving an AP2 (04-06 MY). You lose the incredible 9k redline, but gain civility in daily driving. It might be a less drastic transition for you.

Incredible redline? I don't think I've ever heard it described that way before. The S2000 is a demanding car, it may not be for you, but to truly experience the car, you need to be driving between 6-9k rpm. The sound and responsiveness are night and day between 1-5k and the 5-9k vtec range in an AP1 S2000. The S2000 may not have enough torque for you though.

My .02?

Never buy a convertable unless thats what it was designed to be from the beginning, or you end up having a coupe with the top chopped off.

As far as I recall it was our good friend Jeremy C. that made this comment
I do agree though.

I just thought that might be a little more harmful to the engine if it is driven daily like that.
I thought the same thing when I read the specs right when the S was released. The guys in Motor Trend wrote something to the effect of, "We're going to destroy the car in no time having to redline it to 9000 rpms everytime you want it to go...but then we realised this is a Honda."

Remember, this vehicle was specifically designed to perform exactly the way it does without mechanical problems. Of course, you will always get a few (statistically, but again, this is a Honda) but I rarely ever hear anyone have engine problems from engaging VTEC many, many times a day.

Drive it again. And drive it like you stole it. It's meant to rev and it's meant to be shifted A LOT! You really won't appreciate the S2000 beyond its styling unless you remain actively involved. You'll get the most out of the car and the experience if you find that place where you OWN the car's behavior. It's like balancing a quarter on the head of a pin. Steering, throttle, braking inputs... all managed in such a way that you can safely and predictably keep the car in the Maximum Performance Zone. Super, super fun.

No.
The engine is made for it, can stand it, and IMO begs for it.
The only thing affected is the gas mileage (drastically) but - if you're not in vtec then the mileage is better than average.
