city with the most ragtops?
i'm trying to find the article that I read this on. About two years ago the largest convertible market in the U.S. was Chicago. The reason was we have the longest convertible friendly weather here. Too hot in Texas and South Florida, LA has too much pollution and hollywood types(they dont wanna mess up that fancy hairdo). I belive that the article had sales numbers also. If i can find it I'll post it.
I think it's gotta be Los Angeles for a few reasons.
I believe Los Angeles County has the most registered vehicles of any other county in the country ... by a lot. This alone ups the probability of many convertibles being in the area. LA probably has more of any kind of car than any other major city.
This notion, coupled with the fact that southern California gets a really small amount of rainfall even during winter months (usually), means that there is much better chance of someone buying a convertible to drive around with. It is perfect "convertible" territory.
Also, LA is the source of "hollywood" and the like, a culture that has always been attracted to sportscars and convertibles in particular. Someone mentioned that people don't want to "mess up" their hair in LA, but I seriously doubt that is the case. I lived in LA for 18 years and I've seen tons of ragtops around.
I would think Florida would also have many ragtops, but just not as much as California.

Nothing like a drive with your steel studded tires, a warm parka, Gortex gloves, helmet with visor, and the top down in Prudoe Bay, Alaska. Now that is where men are men and to hell with the elements. They have days that have more sunshine than all of America. And OOOOHHHH those nights. What a way to view the stars.
